Fibaro Home Center 2

Question

Posted

Hi Knowledgeable folks,

I have bought Home Center 2 a while back while we were extending the house and it has been in the box for a while. Yesterday, I started it and it all worked fine. I reset the admin password added my email and then it asked me to upgrade to latest version of the software. Since then, the spanner light has been blinking continously.

I tried to invoke recovery procedure  and found that once I remove the power and reconnect (while holding the +button), the LED starts blinking left to right and then after 3/4 times it stops. I then have to switch the console on using the power button at the back (while pressing the +button), and then it starts again with led blinking from left to right. I have left the system going overnight but with no joy.

I have also tried connecting the console to a screen using VGA, but even that's not working. The screen doesn't receive any signal from the console. Being end of friday and now weekend, I wouldn't get any FIbaro support.

Any advise will be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

As far as I know the VGA cable is not functional. You can only login into the HC2 via its IP address. I would recommend just waiting for @T.Konopka or someone from tech support to contact you. They can be very slow to respond, but they are thorough once they do.

    Hi @rajeev ,

First of all, is the problem still present? If it is, I'd recommend performing a recovery process. Here's the guide on how to do it:

On my HC it displays the kernel messages of the Linux boot process. Once I had a "black screen" on VGA and that was a dead motherboard, so I had to send it in for repair.

What seems odd is @rajeev sees changes in the blue LEDs so that means the system boots... So the boot process should be on the monitor. Weird.

Indeed, we do not have the root password ;-)

The LED board have own firmware, it runs independent (LEDs are blinking increasing till all on, then loop till OS startup) till Linux started and OS took control over I/O. With borken Intel mainboard, OS issues, bad contact (no I/O from OS over USB->UART->LED Board), driver hangups, HCServer crash (no sync with gpio), and lot of other possible scenarios the LED might stay on or off at not specified / random value, or all on+one blinking (no OS controlll at all).

Having only some LEDs on, it might be OS drive issue (bad crc crashing OS), bad contact (communication with LED board), or broken firmware on LED board. This is getting reprogrammed after each update since year or so, therefore firmware update after recovery should fix it (of course not if the AVR uC is partially broken).

Anyway, there is nothing you can fix (maybe except bad contact and recovery).

For me its broken mainboard, sometimes only power supply giving up, very rare recovery stick blocking USB and boot (bit that simple to check)
