FGS212 Wiring in switch

Matt_M

Question

Hi,

Having finally been able to get my three FGS212's into the HC2 on a test rig I now need to install in my main light switches.

I have two questions please:

1. Is it acceptable to wire the FGS212 in parallel to the existing switch i.e. leave the light switch as it is just run a live, neutral and switched live to the switch.

2. How does one deal with a light switch where there are two switches for the one light - one upstairs and one downstairs?

Thank you

1. This isn't possible,

2. The wire from the switch to the light must go to the fgs212 (s1)  and the (Q1) must go to the light.

  • Thank you very much for this. The article is exactly my situation. I am curious why point 1 won't work as I have had my test rig set up with light only - no switch - and it has worked fine.

Re: point 1.  If it's a 3-wire setup, then I think it's ok as you would have a permanent live and neutral feed.  However, I don't think you would get a toggle on/off control.  i.e. if the wall switch is on, then you wouldn't be able to switch the light off through the module, and vice versa. - since they're in parallel.  You would need to wire the wall switched-live into the S1 of the relay as Reinhold suggests.

Whereas, if it's 2-wire then the relay would be swtiched off/on with the switched live - in this case, you should consider the dimmer module instead, as the module is powered by a trickle current passed through the light, but not sufficient to switch it on.

Thank you this is what I thought. The benefit of doing this is that it leaves the existing wiring in tact so to remove the system is very easy. I think this is what I will try first and see if there is too much of a limitation with the switch working manually as such.
