HC3 working as wifi access point

Question

Posted (edited)

Anyone has figured out how to set up HC3 as Access point?

  • No Internet cable required, works also on Wi-Fi
  • Can work as an Access Point to extend Wi-Fi range

I have checked arount interface and can see status of AP in recovery mode but cant find place where to set it up?

@Lauri, HC3 does not ment to be working as Wi-Fi Access point. It was possible during early beta, but it was "fixed".

I see, so I hope they remove all information under recovery mode and user manual as well. Its kind of confusing.

So the HC3 is not mature product yet. The wifi could be used as an AP, but it’s revoked. The Zigbee chipset is implemented but will not be activated untill end december.

    Conclusion : it’s a HC2 ?

Well, as it is on 10/100 Mbit, I'm glad they did what they did. Now, with MU-MIMO 4x4 W-Fi (example

    A better one IMHO.

@Lauri, You can connect to Wi-Fi if Ethernet cable is not connected, so you can do settings even if network is not set up yet. Great for new house constructions.

    Honestly, Wi-Fi in HC3 has 2 use-cases.

    1. Setting Z-Wave network on construction site where you do not have LAN yet, for some basic automation.
    2. Connecting to home Wi-Fi in case there is limited access to Ethernet port as LAN cable would not be eye pleasing.
      • Big Use-Case for real estate projects, where they do not count with many Ethernet connecter.

I agree with you. But I can understand that for some people Wi-fi is better (easier) solution because they don't need/have cabling. Nevertheless 100Mb or 1Gb chipset is the same price, but as I understand it's not provided.

And the Z-wave chip 7 years old.

I understand why wifi is good for initial setup or lack of ethernet cable but right now It is installed in such place where I would love to extend range so I was suprised to see wifi AP option in feature list. I've been with Fibaro since 2012 so I'm experienced abot their marketing and R&D department cooperation.

I was just hoping that they have made progress and doesnt market all the things that are not possible. Like with zigbee, they officially dont say anything about Zigbee nor bluetooth. But we know its there. Thats fine. But if you say that this GW can cook pancakes and then after you pay 600€ find out that it can only eat Pancakes, then we have an issue.

This was also advertised in partner meeting last year. After that i actually asked them about Wi-Fi AP. They said such feature will not be there. Wi-Fi only for setting and connecting to existing Wi-Fi.
