Start converting LUAcode HC2->HC3 or not?

okidoki

Question

Hi All,

I'm the proud owner of a HC3 for 3 weeks and have been very busy with replacing switches, dimmers, installing motion sensors and doors sensors in my house. So far i have automated the most important switches, doors and lights. Mostly with some very simple (and limited)  block scenes. I know for sure that i will need to learn LUA i i want some better scenes.  In the evening i'm learning by reading and reading though these forums. Some real great stuff out here.

I found some great LUA code which was made available by some the the pro's here at the forum. The majority is written in LUA for HC2, so if i want to use it i have to convert it to LUA HC3. I think i can do that when i'm patient...

But here i'm a bit hesitating.  I see in some code some special written code form timing issues, working with globals etctetc. Sometimes it was developed to overcome some HC2 issues. Should i just completely translate the code to HC3 LUA or are there already some better solutions in the HC3 which were not available in the HC2? Or are all these apps perfectly capable to run on the HC3 too? To be more specific, i'm looking at code like Main Scene FTBE, smart lights scene, Hometable, sunset, sunrise, Timer, to name a few.

interested in your opinion!

@10der Thank you for the HomeTable script.  Can you give me an example of how to get values out of it ?  I tried the old LUA way and it does not work. The / is throwing me off  ?
