Is it possible to add HC2 as Slave to HC3 Master?

Question

Posted

I have both a HC3 and HC2, the HC3 is fully configured, but the network cannot extend to an outbuilding. The HC2 has been factory reset and has no devices, both are updated to the most recent (non-beta) release of their respective versions (HC3 on 5.x and HC2 on 4.x). Is it possible to add the HC2 as a slave of the HC3? This would allow me to use the HC2 as a repeater (There are LAN cables to the outbuilding) but they don't seem to see each other. The instructions for the HC3 suggest that it has to be prepared as a slave first, but I don't see such an option on the HC2.

If I'm right: from the next HC3 SW version.... (now only HC3 - HC3(L) supported)

I hate to correct people but this might lead to people buying the wrong stuff... AFAIK at the moment only HC3 <-> HC3. Connection to HC3 Lite is on the todo list...

Using HC2 as a slave to a HC3 master is on a "post it note", at the bottom of a pile of documents with "HC3 TODO" on it.

Thanks! Yes. This is the correct info...

Thanks for the info; so just to confirm, the HC3 Lite cannot be used as a slave either, at the moment, despite this being advertised as a feature?

I'm not surprised that HC3 to HC2 isn't possible, to be honest, but the backup was to buy an HC3 Lite instead, now it appears that isn't possible, either. I'm not overly keen on paying £400 on a second device, so may just configure the HC2 as a standalone system for now and accept that I cannot control my office devices from the house.

Mark, you could consider this solution:

Thanks SHE, in my case the master device is the HC3 as the HC2 is one I have acquired, rather than me upgrading from HC2 to HC3, but I can see that this would work the other way around... The intention was to move my HC3 to the office as it would then be on the UPS, but I may put the HC2 in the office instead as all of the (current) outside lights are connected to modules in the house so we need switches in the office to control them. Hopefully by the time we get the rest of the outside lights done, which will be wired to the office, we'll be able to have a proper master/slave setup, either with the HC2 or at the very least an HC3Lite. Thanks for your help!

It could be done by using
