Security setup for using Google voice control to open garage door

liptsin

Question

Hi,

I've setup my HC3 lite with a Smart Implant to open my garage door including using a limit switch to send me notifications when it's opened.

I've also linked it to Google home and have open it via voice control without problem. (apart from the occasional times when Google says it's not available and suggest to set it up again, even though it opens it or turns on devices)

Anyway the issue I've with this setup is the security where anyone can just ask Google to open my garage door.

Chances might be slim that someone would be shouting outside my house hoping that Google home picks up and the garage door. But I would like to eliminated that chance if possible.

Any idea or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Yeah, this is a never ending story. Have the convenient verbal commands do the job for us, and have a little bit of risk there, to allow someone else to use it.

First i think the best way is to set the sensitivity of google nests to a level, where it will not be accessable from a larger distance than you wish it to be.

The other thing that you can play with a little bit, is the voice recogition.

First disable the oprion in google to allow other to use your devices. (dont ask me where is it exactly, i dont remember, but there is somewhere that option)

After that teach google assistant to recognize only your voice (and all family members).

I am not saying that this will do the job for 100%, but if you grind through all these adjustments, there will be a very very low chance that some can exploit your google nests.

My nests are set up this way, and there is no chance to access them from outside of my house.
