I love this device... Excellent battery life, the LED feedback, settings, the 6 buttons, the sealing to protect against lint accumulating inside, and I probably forgot some more positives.

@petergebruers How is the z-wave range on the fob? Particularly interested in if it is better than the Fibaro Button.

You do not say it but I am going to infer from your question, that you have issues with "the Fibaro Button" aka the PB or "Panic Button". More on that below........

I did not have range issues but when I bought my Key Fob I did walk around the house and my (little) garden to see if the so called "explorer frames" were effective at finding routes, especially because I wasn't sure if my oldest devices would work as repeaters for explorer frames.

I had no issues, no dead spots and so I never really measured range. Test succeeded!

Now my guess from the age of both devices I would say that they should be equivalent in performance. However, certainly the early versions of the PB caused posts on this forum that would suggest sleep or range issues. I cannot always diagnose other peoples devices from a distance, but I did diagnose and fix mine.

IMHO the perceived issues were caused by scratchy spring contacts and possible "fatigue" of the spring(s)

To prove and fix that I opened mine, and when I tried to bend the spring on the PCB it broke off, clearly a sign of issues. I did give this PB a second life by soldering it to a battery, as you can see on the picture below. After that, I never had issues with that device again!

  • 1 year later...

i'm still having issues with dead batteries not being reported (and in homecenter they look like being 100%). Anybody already found a solution to this issue?
