HC3 success story!

Question

Posted

I have to say, I waited and am VERY happy so far with my HC2 to HC3 upgrade. I am more of an electrician than a techie so a lot of what I use it for is very 'old school practical' e.g. separate times for outside lights, different 'scenes' if the alarm is set or unset, nothing too clever but much more clever than having to resort to timeswitches, remotes, and a LOT of additional cabling!

The fact that with 70 devices or so the HC3 is so much easier and FASTER to program is great. I know a lot of others have had a lot of trouble. And the HC2 could boil a kettle on top!!

However, my non-techie status has left me with a bit of an issue.

I would like to create a very simple scene where every morning, my internet radio wakes up at 7am, sets station and volume.

How do I, in the simplest way possible, send the command(s) 'http://1.2.3.4/myradio/turnon','http://1.2.3.4/myradio/vol6' etc... via a scene? I have never done this before and it looks a bit trickier than on HC2??

Thanks in advance :)

Welcome to the limitation of the HC3.   Most of these issues I solved by using IFTTT.

Hope it helps.

@druqs2

hey :)

It's certainly not a limitation of the HC3, and I'd stay away from IFTT myself.

It's actually quite easy to get done. I attached a simple quickapp that makes a button, and when pressed it opens a url.

Just edit line 21 with your url.

Now you can use this quickapp in a block scene, that presses that button.

Ps great to hear that your so happy with your system!

I agree with @ppeterr , stay away from cloud solutions as much as possible. After buying Netatmo products and experience with this cloud solution I now looking only for devices that can work locally without needing to send my privacy outside my home and being depended on internet connection.

Well, the answer is, I am now a programmer :) sort of...

I found the QA on the forums for my Yamaha Musiccast CRX-N470D, except... it did not work completely.

I have found a minor error or two (spaces in lines for volume) and got that part working - but that wasn't enough for me!

I eventually managed to add extra buttons, so I can now use the HC3 to turn on my kitchen radio at a specific volume (I have created 'volume profiles') every morning.

The only thing I am struggling to do is have external variables for the 'time of day volume' buttons, e.g. Breakfast Volume = 11, with the 11 being a variable same as the IP, rather than hardcoded

Anyway, for anyone else with this stereo, here's my quick-app-hack.

Well that escalated quickly, in a few days from "However, my non-techie status" to, super LUA coder slash hacker :)

    Good work :)

    Thanks :)

The thing is there is no way I could ever have written that, but, I can sort of understand it, and therefore make it work a bit better for me with tweeks, but you can see my limitation, I can't work out how to pull in external variables :(

I also have netetmo and am sometimes disappointed with its performance. Do you have any alternatives that work locally?

For sure the guys on this forum can help you. I am hanging around here for about 2 years. I've seen code in some topics here, that when

i look longer then 5 minutes at it, i become dizzy and have a headache later on. I maybe understand 5% of what is going on. But a lot of

users here make magical stuff for the HC3. And made my system also a big success.

So maybe you could start a new topic, post the code and pinpoint what your missing. Hopefully it will be picked up, and worked out.

    Good luck!

Agreed this isn't quite the right place, I will go away, have another few goes (after all, it does 95% of what I want already) and post in the proper forum.

Meanwhile, here is a Yamaha Musiccast 128pixel icon :)
