Question about ZIGBEE and MESH network

Question

Posted (edited)

Hi

Can I ask about the functionality of the zigbee MESH network? It has several zigbee sockets and lights and I feel that it absolutely does not fingering the signal transmission on devices connected to the mains. The light connected 3m away from the mains connected light cannot be controlled and says it is unavailable. So it can't do the network around the house but only within range of the HC3, does anyone have information on how this is set up in Fibaro HC3? Thank you

Hi @petro_cz ,

Please check this link first:

then check your router WiFi settings and HC3 zigBee channel selected and see if there is interference.

In the past I had lots of trouble with my HUE bulbs that where frequently reported as unreachable until I selected different channels on my WiFi router and HUE bridge to reduce interference to minimum. Now all works like a charm. BTW my WiFi 2.4 is set to channel 1 and HUE bridge zigBee to channel 25.

Thank you, the problem is that the zigbee in FIBARO HC3 does not allow to change the channel, but it is strange that the first bulb is 10m from the station and goes, the second is 12m and no longer goes, it does not look like interference, but a malfunctioning MESH network ( there should each device do a signal converter)

Maybe it is not your HC3 that is close to a source of interference. As I understand it, HC does seem to work with devices far away.

Maybe your badly performing device cannot receive very well. Maybe it is close to for example a USB3 device. In my house, USB3 on my Pi4 causes more trouble than WiFi.

From what I can see, you have several 2.4GHz APs around with 40Mhz bandwidth allowed (channels 3 to 11 are bridged in the picture). Personally, I'm surprised that you can work on Wi-Fi without any major problems. It all affects each other (mutual interference) and we haven't discussed Zigbee yet.
First of all, ensure a more suitable distribution of APs in the spectrum. Use only the 20MHz band, use channels 1, 6 and 11 (or only 1 and 6) so that the distance between identical channels is at least 40db. I also don't like the name SSID PetroX. If it is one network, you should all have one name to ensure "roaming" between APs.
Adjust your Wi-Fi to deal with anything else.

    eM.

I mainly use the 5GHz network that has Roaming complete, 2. 4 is just for IoT, so there is only minimal traffic on them and this network is in Roaming, there are just different SSIDs (as an alias) but I don't think it's a problem of non-functioning MESH in zigbee, because from the base the range is sufficient, it's just that the forwarding doesn't work, I tried it in the garden today and the first socket was 30m from the base and the second one 35m from the base was working and not anymore, when I get closer to the base with it it works, this makes it clear that the network is parallel and not serial!

I have a similar observation. Zigbee clearly does not work in mesh mode. Fibaro will confidently blame the low quality of zigbee products, that they are not all routers (specs and instructions supposedly lie).

Only problem is that when I run the same devices on tuya, routing works without a problem and coverage is much better.

Interestingly, after some update I also had this problem with b-button (z-wave). It stopped working in the bedroom. I had to go to the room where the hc3 stands and then the actions worked. Soft reconfiguration did not help. I had to delete and re-add the button to make it work again in my bedroom away from the hc3. Weird.

Is maybe this problem with zigBee on HC3:

    Still in beta?

Update history for HC3 zigBee that I could find since first public beta release:

    • Update 5.131.57 Beta (February 2 2023) - *The Zigbee devices controlling the light should be re-added to the system.
    • Update 5.120 - Zigbee  Minor changes in Zigbee settings page.  Improved generic device support.
    • Update 5.112 Beta - Zigbee Minor changes in Zigbee settings page. Improved generic device support.
    • Update 5.110 (April 14, 2022)- 4. Zigbee protocol support (Home Center 3) First public beta version of Zigbee protocol support now available for tests purpose on HC3. Support for limited types of devices with focus on lighting.

What about repeater devices support ? One year passed and just "minor" updates in zigbee network. Maybe we should jailbreak HC3 telnet and dig a problems with comunity ?

Dear Pedro, Could you solve the Zigbee mesh problem in your HC3? I have the same problem and I can´t solve. All the devices that are close to the HC3 works great. But at the very moment that I conect them a little bit far away, they don´t work as a mesh. Exist any solution to this problem?
