I could not believe it but after replacing the HC3 hardware completely my problems were gone.

I did have exactly the same symptoms.

@Alex I have a spare HC3 new in box laying here. How was the process?

updating the new HC3 to the same version and restoring a backup?

Would all devices be transferred like that?

@Alex how long ago did you replace the HC3?

Posted

@SDeathIt is about two months ago. Before the replacement I had these problems once at least every two weeks up to once a day.

Yes you have to make a current backup on the old unit and add the new unit to your FIbaroID account.

Both units should have the same version (but no must I think), than you will have to transfer the old unit to the new unit (via FibaroID Webpage).

Last step would be to restore backup (if everything was successfully you will find the backup files on your new unit (because of the transfer process)).

@Alex was your new HC3 the same hardware ID? Or was it a newer revision. Just figuring out if there maybe a hardware issue that they fixed in a new revision.
To prevent my transfer is in vain.

Good question, but I am not able to answer this anymore :( I have no idea what hardware ID/revision my old one had.

Don't even know if I could see this without opening the box.

Might be the case but I don't know.

Seems like there only one revision I can find: FGHC3-001.
So that looks promising. I’ll give it a shot tomorrow.

So far so good.
But still very early.

Still running fine on the new HC3.
Seems like this is hardware related.
I have added the old HC3 as a gateway with no devices, but still than it has reset already 1 time in a week time.

Apparently they didn't give up yet, m.roszak send me a PM after my messages, and said they did solve 90% of the causes for this issue and where working on the last 10%.

Mine is in those last 10%.
They claim they do have the solution for the last 10% as well.

They where stress testing that solution according to them.

They modified the firmware of my broken HC3 and it's in for a long test to see if things have become stable now.
I have it again configured as a Slave gateway with nothing on it.
And I will report back regularly if things are stable now.

So this is only fixable by hardware replacement/repair?

Posted (edited)

No it’s a firmware modification.
Still has to prove itself as the solution.

Ok, great.

That sounds promising.

Let’s wait and see, I’ve seen too many promising solutions in the 2 years I am having this issue.

Well there you have a point ;)

Yesterday my new Homey Pro arrived, going to do some testing the coming weeks and maybe I'll migrate.

I like there platform, community driven apps and the ability to build your own apps (JavaScript).

Would that be their newest Pro from 2023?

Don’t see any big advantages, and from what I have heard on the older system it hasn’t really matured.

The apps are basically the same as the Quickapps on the HC.

But that is all hearsay.

Now my new HC3 runs as it should all is dandy for me. I have too much time and devices invested into this to change again anytime soon. After 8 years with the HC2 and now over 2 years with the HC3.

Yeah, the new 2023 Pro.

I already have  a Homey 2016 model, but often run out of memory and storage space. The 2023 model has much better specs.

I used the old Homey for some stuff the HC3 till today still couldn't do.

The apps are indeed a bit like QA's but I am better acquainted with JavaScript. You can use HomeyScript for automation and Apps for integration.

When I bought the HC3 I misread the add, thinking it did support ZigBee already, but that wasn't the case. Had to wait till it was implemented. So at first the still had to be controlled with the Homey (and some still can't be controlled by the HC3). I also had some old 433Mz devices which couldn't be controlled by the HC3.

Because of the company (my Z-wave stuff is mostly Fibaro), and maybe the high price, I had great expectations of the HC3. But in terms of functionality it couldn't stand up to the older Homey.

I know that none of the systems are perfect and there is always a matter of taste. So this is not a rant.

But after migrating from Homey to HC3 I always still needed the Homey for some stuff.

I think (for my needs) there is nothing what the HC3 can and the Homey can't, but there is stuff the HC3 can't and the Homey can.

So my new HC3 started to show the same behavior as my old, and starting to reboot/loose network connection for a few minutes.
I have asked Fibaro to apply the same fix as my old HC3 to test and see if that solves the problem too.

I also needed to buy a Zwave stick to update firmware on some new zwave devices I got, I bought a Aeotec Z-stick gen7 and I used Home Assistant to update the firmware and was impressed with the features and the devices it finds on my network and seamless integration with those (Sonos, Android TV, Marantz receiver, etc).
So I setup a server with hardware I still had laying around with an i3-6100, 16GB of DDR4-2400 and a 128GB Samsung SSD to start experimenting with Home Assistant, very futureproof and capable hardware.
I might also buy the Zi-Stick from Aeotec to add Zigbee and a 433MHz Tranceiver to experiment with that as well.

If I get the hang of Home Assitant I might switch things over to that.

But still first lot to experiment.

I think the fix is stable enough after over 2 months.
I might have had one restart but I am not 100% sure about that.

But things seems very stable now.
