Using Smart implant to disable Button from Chamberlain Garage opener ?

Question

Posted

Hi all.

Maybe a weird question (and my first as well in this forum):

I have a Garage opener from Chamberlain. With a button (two-wired), I can open / close it

I have a HomeKit capable Opener from Memos connected (works fine).

Following scenario: I I have my car parked in front of the Garage door for charging it. Because of this the should cannot (and should not) open by accidentally pushing the Opener button inside the Garage.

I was thinking about using the Smart Implant (using the power of the Chamberlain Garage opener) to activate / deactivate the functionality of the button.

I am aware, that this is a quite unusual "use case", but somehow, I am looking for a chance to save my car for being damaged accidentally.

Maybe you have an idea, how to solve this ?

I would highly appreciate your feedback / support on that.

Thanks in advance

    Oh…what a busy week.

    Thanks for your patience.

My Saturday morning was in the garage until now 😉 With partial success.

out 1 controls the garage nearly as expected now. I push button “1” in the app (not the physical one). The door opens and the pushed button (was in status “on”, quickly jumps to “off” and back to “on”. This goes for both directions (opening and closing).

I tried both of your versions (V1, V2).

both let me turn “on” and “off” the physical button….but…with no difference. The physical button does not work at all.

maybe the button has not enough power?

I attach two pictures of the button.

one is showing the physical button directly connected to the garage opener and one shows it, connected “through” the smart implant.

    any idea on that?

But until now…many thanks so far

    @Jupp

Can you send me a photo of the button from the inside(back)? Exact type of button, or manual?? Until now, I thought that the photos were of the drive (motor) of the gate. Are those photos of the button?
That would probably explain a lot.
The fact that some kind of LED lights up on the button (and according to the photos it changes its status up/down) means that it will not be an ordinary button. Will they be powered at least for ice, or is there data communication?.. without documentation, we probably won't move. The manual you sent in the first post is probably for the engine? It definitely does not match the clamps from the photos.

    Send screenshots of SI settings.
If the button is in the default ON state, switches to OFF and returns to ON again, something is wrong.
The default state is OFF. It depends on the setting (reverse), but it can also be a problem in the connection.

    eM.

On the pictures, you can see the original Chamberlain (Garage opener) Physical button.

    Starting from scratch.

If we just talk about the garage opener and nothing else, we just have the garage opener with the connectors (connectors picture) and the physical Chamberlain switch. Nothing more.

This physical switch is "always on" (means the button is lid all the time) and it is a push button.

With this, i can open the garage (push once) and close it as well (push again). Or stop it from opening / closing (pushing it, while the door opens/closes).

This physical button is connected to the connectors "1" and "2". of the garage opener.

What I did now (according to your two alternative solutions): I putted the SI in between the garage opener and the physical button.

My expectation was, that the button "1" of SI (and in the Yubii-App) behaves like the "physical button". Pushing once, opens the garage. Pushing again, closes the garage.

This is working at the moment with your solution. Button "1" in the app always stays on (only when I press it in the App, it shortly switches off and back to on). But the garage closes/opens as expected.

The physical button (which I interpreted in your drawing as the monostable) is now always showing the green LED, but weaker than if it is connected directly to the garage opener.

I can turn it "off" and "on" in the Yubii-App, by pressing the switch "2" from the SI.

But this that no impact at all.

    @Jupp

    Hello.
I had to read the entire manual, look up a lot of information on the net, and I couldn't find a separate manual for the button anywhere. It appears to be model 041A7367-3. And when I look at the accessory that is connected to terminal 1 and 2, it is some kind of data communication. It is therefore not possible to use an ordinary button or a contact from a smart implant to open it.
In addition, what about the manual that you sent the link to, the connector block is shown in two rows, whereas in the photo of the opening there is one row. The manual will not be for this engine.
So I don't know what the exact function is on terminals 1 and 2 of the opener (drive), but I really think it's data communication.

If you disconnect the button and connect these two wires leading to terminals 1 and 2, does the door start to move? (up/stop/down/stop/...). I think you wrote it in the past.
If so, connect terminals 1 and 2 to OUT1 SI. Do not use the original button anymore and use the wires for input 1 to the smart implant, a normal button (normal switch).
That way you get smart switching Controlled both from the application and from the normal wall button.
When everything works, you can connect it according to the previous scheme for blocking V1/V2... but again with a regular button, not the original one.

Quick connection with building components = blocking of the original button.
    Opener Terminal 1 - SI OUT2 A
    SI OUT2 B - original button terminal A
original button terminal B - Terminal 2 opener
This will probably fulfill the basic required blocking function. For this, you do not need to set anything in HC3 with SI.

Once again...thanks a lot for your efforts.

I will try it again, to follow your guidelines. Still it is hard for me to understand, since I am no electrician. I have to read carefully, slowly and one after the other....and still it is hard for me to follow/understand everything.

The solution, I have at the moment (based on your drawings) is nearly, what I expected. Maybe I need to use another physical button. It will take some time to further investigate and try it one after the other.

Once again. thanks for your help.
