Dimmer never goes off (stays at 1%)

Question

Posted (edited)

HC3 on 5.140.17

Dimmer 2 firmware 3.5

5 x 7W LEDs

Bypass installed (regardless)

3 wire setup

1 physical momentary switch

Parameters don't look off and say that it detects everything as dimmable (ask if you need a dump)

Expectation:

1. single click acts like a toggle ON/OFF resuming the last known brightness level

2. pressed controls the brightness (either ascending or descending) depending on which 'way' you were going in (1)

3. I should be able to reach 0% which should be interpreted as OFF

4. I should be able to reach 100% (what's the 99% about?)

5. anything >0% is ON, =0% is OFF

Yubi app (and HC3 web): ON and OFF is 99% and 0%.

When 0% the system determines it as OFF.

When the physical switch is pressed from darkness, i can reach 99% (says the app when watching it)

When the physical switch is pressed again, it will reach 1% ONLY. It will NOT reach 0%. Therefore the system thinks it's "ON".

Calibration done numerous times (assuming i'm doing it correctly via the B button routine etc)

Doesn't matter if bypass is there or not, but I install them anyway.

Also some lag via the physical switch (app is relatively quick for any operation), no idea why, and to go from say 99% to 1% seems to take like 5-7 seconds.

I have about 3 of these all behaving weird like this.

Could it be a HC3 issue (I am reluctant to install the latest BETA as of writing) OR a Dimmer f/w issue?

thanks

I'll answer one of your questions. There is a dimmer parameter you can change to determine how quickly lights turn on or off. But also, I have some LED lights that have an inbuilt fade to off that can't be changed.

Thanks. I don't see any explicit parameters suggesting that on my parameter list. Any values with "seconds" are 1s or below that.

But anyway, using another vendor's dimmers (Vesternet), I generally don't have this problem. It could be just a weird combination of devices causing the LEDs to still glow (but relatively brightly)

    Hello.

Look in the settings for parameter 31. Here it is written how the calibration was performed (rising or falling edge).

Then open parameter 30 and switch from 2 (default automatic) to another type of control than you read from parameter 31.

    Parameter 30: Load control mode

0 - forced leading edge control

1 - forced trailing edge control

It is possible that the LED driver does not understand the specific control system.

Another problem could be that the OFF command does not come. Maybe you only need dimming and the minimum level is exactly 1%. I assume that you control the dimmer by holding down the button and turn it off with one click of the button.

The logic is that after reaching 1% (minimum and adjustable) you are still in dimming mode. You can only turn it off with a click.

If that doesn't help, to rule out hw errors, I suggest trying to set the mode

    32. On/Off mode

This disables dimming and forces the dimmer output to turn OFF.

    @Martin_N Thanks for responding.

From a completely reset mode, I did this following your advice:

    Changes:

    - changed auto-detected trailing edge to leading edge

    - forced on-off mode only (ie. no dimming possible)

    - disabled double click to max (param

    Effect:

    - physical switch is fast

    - system reads as 100% and 0%

    - no dimming possible

    Next:

    - try out dimming
