Device loosing connection

Neo Andersson

Question

Hello guys

Anyone, who has better knowledge about zwave mesh structure?

I have a device aprox 15m from the HC3. 1 wall inbewteen. 2 repeater devices inbetween, but the device still loosing the connection.

I have checked on installer web UI that actually there are no neighbours shown for the device.

How to force the system to utilize repeater devices to find the track, and not trying to connect to the gateway directly??

I have tried reconfiguring the mesh of the device, but did not help.

As you can see Garage always try to communicat directly to the gateway..

But there are 2 other devices located between the gateway and the Garage..

Thanks for any help

@Neo Andersson For safety reasons, you should not show the serial number of you hc3l in the internet.

I haven't seen a procedure, to set the route for a zwave device to the controller.

You have already pressed the refresh mesh button in the installer app right?

Things you can try:

Soft reconfiguration of the device

exclude / include the zwave device again

Reconfigure the mesh network: Settings > Z-Wave > reconfigure mesh network > refresh the entire mesh network, in the controller

Try with a zave repeater, I've used aeotec zwave repeater, but I sometimes, they didn't do what I've expected.

The best zwave repeater I found so far, is the fibaro walli controller connected to a power supply. Beside the repeater function, it has a lot of usefull features. For instance, I use it as visual temperature indicator for my water boiler and my heating together with a smart implant. And it has a reasonable price.

Not sure it's the same issue as mine. I have not seen this issue in previous firmwares. The devices(not all, maybe 30-40% of total devices, mainly Fibaro lighting modules)drop connection one by one and it leads to the Z-wave hanging(unable to control any devices after it happens). Only a manual reboot and manual wakeup to devices helps in this situation and after few days it happens all over again. Not sure it's the issue with the hub or the firmware.

    HC3L firmware version: 5.150.18

@Neo Andersson I meant the fibaro walli controller

not the walli switch. The walli controller is much better as zwave repeater.

@Neo Andersson Sorry you don't have the walli controller in this case. The pic you have posted above, is from the walli switch.

Lock below. The first pic is the walli controller, the second pic is the walli switch, the same as you have.

    A few thoughts from me:

What device do you have in your garage? Have you tried another device in the same location, even temporarily?

Is the device aerial nice and straight? And the device located away from metal structures?

Is your garage a separate structure and made of metal or reinforced concrete (Faraday cage)?

The garage is a separate structure, but far from beeing a Faraday cage. It has concrete walls, and some metal construction is there ofcourse, but definitelly not creating Faraday cage effect. Also there are other zwave devies in the garage, even more remotely placed from the gateway, and they have no issues with connection. They show in installer UI that they sending/receiving commands through MESH points, and not directly.

This is not the cas with the Garage implant. It is not showing any neighbours around, and always tries to communicate direclty.

Is the Smart Implant installed inside a metal enclosure?

Otherwise I'm out of ideas. You might have a faulty device.

No, it is in a plastic box. However the question arise about connection route, not about conection itself. It never tries to utilize mesh points. Always tries to hop to the gateway directly. This is my concern..why?

I wouldn't worry too much about the actual route if the device is working ok.  However you said that "the device still loosing the connection". I would try a mesh reconfig for your specific device only, rather than for the entire network (this works for me in similar situations on HC2).

If you are still loosing the wireless connection, I'm thinking about antenna problems, blocked signals, or a faulty device. But if the device is trying to connect directly to the controller, that might imply that the signal is strong. Another thought is interferance from a similar frequency device or electromagnetic noise from a motor etc.
