Cannot upgrade any device firmware

Question

Posted

Hi,

I'm using HC3 and recently got updates for door/window sensors and heat controllers. Tried upgrading all of them - every single one fails.

Door/window sensor (3.2 to 3.3) waits for communication, I'm waking it up by taking the cover off for few seconds, it initiates the upgrade ("Waiting for communication" changes to "0%") for about a minute, then changes FAILED.

Heat controllers (4.9 to 4.10) - also tries to initiate the upgrade and goes into FAILED.

In the console also I can see is:

[20.08.2024] [16:08:39] [TRACE] [ZWAVE]: ID 81: OK. The device will initiate the firmware update of the target specified in the meta data.
[20.08.2024] [16:10:39] [TRACE] [ZWAVE]: ID 81: The device was unable to receive the requested firmware data.

Upgraded HC3 from 5.160.42 to 5.161.15, rebooted HC3, removed battery from one of the door sensors, but still no luck.

How to fix this?  Firmware upgrades is a complete mess every single time.

Thanks

There are several tips posted on the forum, like for example batteries full, device non secure paired, device close to HomeCenter?

(Also you have to ask yourself, if you need the update, otherwise than just get rid of the update notification.)

Are you suggesting to rip the sensors off the window to have them updated? Seriously?

What does it mean batteries full? 100%? 99% won't be enough?

All the thermostats are already paired with no security just to have every single upgrade done in the past - looks like this is Fibaro's approach...

All of this is a joke. Can Fibaro step up and fix all these issues? I like the module design, but that's all. Software is complete crap.

Looks like I have to switch to other brands to get things actually working as they should.

    Hi @klolik79,

Your anger is completely misplaced. This forum is full of dear people that want to help, even with problems caused by bugs in software.

Also, I do not remember any of the device made by humans that was perfect and without problems, specially when it is combined with any kind of software, same as I do not know any software without bugs, even my own software made for HC2 and HC3. :-)

So, please lighten up, take building of home automation as a nice challenge and to learn something. If you expect that ever any of the home automation solutions will be perfect, then you live in an illusion. In that case for you is better to find some other hobby that will give you more satisfaction  ;-)
