Scenes run slow or even hang until rebooted HC3 5.171.15

Question

Posted

Hi all,

I've been coping with issues on my HC3 for some time and I'm not able to find any solution.

As the title states: scenes run progressively slower over a period of some days, maybe a week. Eventually I restart the HC3 and all works fine... Again, for a couple of days.

my setup:

-46 devices connected, all z-wave, mostly Fibaro dimmers /smart switches / motion sensors. Also a couple of aftermarket motion sensors.

-2 or 3 plugins and QAs for e.g. Sonos and a Hue bridge, which in turn has 37 (zigbee) devices connected to it.

-34 scenes, mainly used to switch on and of a variety of lights.

When rebooted, the memory of HC3 shows about 63%. Over time this slowly increases and when reaching somehere near 75-80% the problems start...

Processor activity is for all cores fairly low: +/- 5%.

I updated to a new (beta)version, but no luck.

Who can help me get started on where or even what to look for?

Looks like @Diz did already tried to update to the latest firmware of the HC3, he writes he did. But he writes in this 5.171.15 section, so maybe not the latest 5.172.23 version @Diz?

I ran 5.172 memory usage by start 44%  and not used 20% after 5-7 days memory usage 58% and not used 4% >>  need restart  because performance is slow.

If update  5.172.23 same result.

After a complete fresh HC3 start same result.

System is rather the same since 2 years no big changes.

44+20=64

You are missing 36 somewhere?

So, with half of free space, no need to worry about that.

the missing 36% is buffer and cache 6 - 30

Perhaps I miss something no need to worry for a restart every 7 days?

Memory usage goes up buffer and cache also what result in free space after 7 days in  4%. Hereby the HC3 becomes noticeable very slow.

start                     44%-6%-30%-20%

Uptime 12 hours 53%-6%-27%-14%

So somewhere the used memory is not given back after some part of the process that why it's increasing.

Like jgab said earlier: "Cache and buffer should not be counted as the system at any time can release it if it needs more memory."

So you have far more free space than the 4% you write, you have 56% to 47% "free space". So half of the memory of your HC3 is still available.

Can be but with the numbers I have the cache and buffer does't release.

Then explain the slowness of the HC3 with the 4 % free around 2 seconds delay with 58+4 62% in use and 38% cache and buffer!

Shoot me it's the reality you say it's okay but every 7 days a restart is not okay!

When you restart, a lot more happens besides an initial allocation of memory. If a regular restart helps, just keep on doing that. But why would you even expect a release of the cache or buffer. You have paid for the memory chips, so why not use or reserve the memory. You somehow have a particular belief about the memory and free space percentage for years now. No worry, you can have that belief, but please don't put other users on the wrong path, keep that belief to yourself.

Oaky if you think a restart every 7 days is normal and the last 3,5 years seldom I will step back.

Please read my post. I said nothing about a restart every 7 days being normal. I just said, if that helps, just keep on doing it. But I also wrote: when you restart, a lot more happens besides an initial allocation of memory. No-one needs to step back. Just do your own thing, but please don't put other users on the wrong track with your 4%. You have a lot more memory at your disposal than 4%.

For @Diz he probably needs to update from 5.171.15 to 5.172.23 like suggested.

I have updates to beta version 5.171.15 without result. Although I doubt that the newer beta will solve the issue (since I don’t see antthing in the changelog that might take care of this) I will

update the HC3 anyway to get the discussion out of the way and move on.

Bytheway: NO, every couple of days a reboot is NOT ok and unacceptable.

Have you examined the HC3 Log … it might shown up some unusual activities.

Michal did give the tip to update. I think there could be a solution in the new beta. Not all of the changes are in the changelog, maybe one under the hood.

I have the same issue sice couple of weeks maybe months. Huge lag with scenes and also Mobile App on my Android screen is lagging.

Sorry but Fibaro is a disaster. Since the name change to Yubii it's been worse every month! you forced me to change the application to Yubii and it's a big lie.

Although my knowledge to cope with beta versions is not good enough, I updated to the latest as requested. And as expected, no change.

@Diz Because you mention it work fine after a reboot, I wouldn't expect the Z-wave network should be the problem. But it doesn't hurt the check the Z-wave network. Just to have that ruled out.

There was a small thing in scenes engine, so I hoped that is the issue.

So now its a moment to create a support ticket.

Please see attachment below. This does this look right? Seems like the HC3 is continuously busy with QA of Hue commands...

Good question. I believe it's Huemain QA, created by

disabling the QA does not solve a thing. It keeps running according the log as displayed above.
