QuickApp icons

Question

Posted (edited)

I've written a QuickApp for adjusting lighting. I'd like to choose an appropriate icon for it, but there are only few to choose from, some question marks and such. How do I get to choose from existing lighting related icons?

Depends on what type of QA you make if it is a generic QA you get the icons for the generic type.

But you can also upload new icons if you log on local and format the icon 128x128 pixels.

I fail to understand the logic in HC3. Why limit the icons I can choose from? If I can create a generic QA and do whatever I like with it, then it would be logical to be able to choose from all icons available for all devices.

The QA I've created controls lighting but there is no type for lighting. It looks like the system does have a device type/role for "Light", but it is not available for a QA. Surprisingly there is the type of "Color controller", but that type does not have any icons at all. Really strange..

    Thanks @Brors94

If the light is only on/off you can use a BinarySwitch (got light icons), if it is a dimmer use multilevelswitch  :D

The reason is because a generic only got 1 icon set.  A binary switch got 2 iconsets. (on/off Icon) and multilevel switch got 11 iconset (Off 10-100%)  :D That is why I guess.

But if you want more custom icons it is possible to upload youself :) Just takes some time 😅

    Edit:

And I think you can change icon by lua code in QA and use the other icons actuall, But I havent done it mutch so aint got an example at the moment :)

Actually the multilevel is somewhat close to what my QA does, which is to automatically adjust the light temperature based on the time of day. It has the set of icons I could choose from, but on the other hand, it has a fixed set of controls I don't need. So, can't use that. Anyway, a good tip!

In regards to the UI, the QA scheme seems to be a strange mix of some fixed controls added with the possiblity of choosing some additional ones. The immediate questions in my head are like, why can't I delete the UI controls that are unneccessary for me? or why can't i choose the order of the controls, and so on..  I guess the reasoning for this mess is that there's some historical payload and/or maybe they didn't have the incentive to do it properly. But I what can't understand is why the icons must be limited by the type 😠 It would be so easy to make that right..

Anyway, that's enought of ranting.  Maybe I just need to copy some icons already in the system and upload them back to it 🤣

    Thanks @Brors94 !
