Possible to reset the dimmer module without physical access to the module?

Question

Posted

Hello! I have 4 dimmer modules installed throughout the house. All of them were previously paired to a z-wave hub that I can't get working anymore. 2 of them I can physically access the switches and have had great success resetting them using the menu mode (press and hold the b button until it turns yellow, then press the button again), then setting them into pairing mode.

My issue is the other 2 modules are hidden in false ceilings above my downlights, and I cannot access them without destroying the edges of the false ceiling which would require a touch-up.

Is there a way I can reset the modules with just the switches and my circuit breaker? I have tried cutting power to my entire house but the modules are still not reset. I also can't get them to go into pairing mode by switching on then off x3 which is what I did when I originally paired them.

Thanks in advance!

Set you hub in excluding/removing mode, Then tap the switch 3 times. then wait a minute and set the hub in inclusion and tap the switch again 3 times and it should be added :D

Repeat for device nr 2.

Thank you for the input! Should I be doing the exclusion on the old hub that the modules were originally paired to? Or can I force the module to reset with the new hub (home assistant, if it helps)?

I'm having issues with the old hub because it doesn't want to connect to a WiFi network so I can't get it to interact with the modules that have already been paired.

    Edit: I found this discussion

Mentioning that any hub (even if never paired with the device) can set the device into exclusion mode. Let me try and report back! Thank you!

Yes, you can use any z-wave hub you want to do the process :D

Thank you! Can confirm that this worked! I was able to use the exclusion mode on the Z-wave integration of my Home Assistant to force my dimmer modules (and the on/off modules of another brand) to unpair! Then I was able to pair it to Home Assistant and configure them.

No need for factory reset, at least not in this case. Just a simple unpair and pair would do! Cheers!
