Posted

Well on top of the inconsistent behaviour!

My box has today decided to * itself completely! So ZERO home automation for me!

Noticed the notifications had stopped on gate sensor so investigated to find 4 static lights on HC2 now fom past experience that means unplug me and plug me back in in English!

So after doing so the unit lights up 8...... 7....... 6....... blah blah and then nothing! no lights no access!

HELP?

And before it even gets mentioned! I am NOT losing all my settings! NEVER! So please any advice must be sensible to get my box sorted!

That is not a solutions for me. Because I don't have homeseer licence, and don't wan't change if my hc2 have problem.

I ran HomeSeer almost flawless for months! I cannot get anymore than 2 days out of this overpriced recased netbook!

Seems you were really unlucky then, my experience is really the opposite. Though I've only used it for 3 weeks now, so that may not count for much yet. Only if I create rules that have a mistake in them, my system might get unstable.

Of course it would be nice to have a way to create a backup away from the HC2. In case of lightning or theft this might be relevant. Though I'm pretty sure that in case of lightning all your modules will be damaged too, so you'll have to redo the inclusion anyway and then adapt your rules to the new ID's.

In fact, I do not remember any single day when I don't have any issues with HC2.

Slow, unreliable, unstable, each update - plug and pray, etc.

Probably, I will collect all my issues and historical events

p.s. Today morning realized that some of my scheduled scenes are not executed again.

2 x relays have also died on me Fibaro branded! The relays stick you have to physically tap the unit to trip the relay!

Been building up to this for a long time! Difference is I am not willing to mess about with it anymore!

I am 99% sure any other solution is more reliable!

    DREADFUL documentation! DREADFUL manuals! OUTDATED!

You programming experience to pull of anything regards LUA!

To many negatives now! Thank Fibaro it has been an experience but bye bye!

Today I'm going to send back to Vesternet one more Fibaro relay (it is completely dead, used to work for 4 month, 2 switches per day

I agree ONLY on the fact that a backup of all the scenes and the code developed made from customer into HC2 should have the possibility to be backup outside the box.

About the rest, I am reading a lot of criticism, BUT I suppose that everyone of us has had some problems from this or other devices, configurations and so on. At the same time I can say that personally always had a prompt answer/reply from Fibaro's team.

If someone doesn't like this level of service at all, that in my experience/opinion is higher if compared to other similar systems....please put box on Ebay. The only criticism is not useful in order to have a progress and sort out the problems.

Ucciogenerale, that is not that is easy... if someone will copy your backup he will have full access to your network, that way we don't allow that

Why not let user to set a password (different from admin account) before you can do a backup/restore?

So in this case we can use a log or data encryption, the worst case is to loose months of configuration and LUA code if the pendrive will die. Am I wrong?

If all the data are on the pendrive how we can prevent this case? This is not clear enough...

    Andrew,

Ok now I understand why you want pair pendrive.

But does is possible if I have all backup on my pendrive pair old pendrive with new HC2 from SSH and restore all config.

Don't tell me we must return pendrive to you to do that ^^.

Hi Andrew, what do you think about a "secured backup" in a Fibaro cloud service? it's secure and easy...

Hi Andrew, what do you think about a "secured backup" in a Fibaro cloud service? it's secure and easy...

I am also in the same position with pen drive failure and issue that my heating stops when I remove hc2 to return it. Not a good option.

It must be possible to fix remotely.

I am now not even convinced pen drive is bad. I think it could just missing file due to corruption when my power failed. I do have a UPS but have no way for controlled close down of hc2 when I am out

It should be possible to copy pen drive contents time after time even tho not very convinient. We. Have restored one drive content to another with no trouble so that used to work...

Skydrive or dropbox export would be nice option!

    Hi Andrew,

If all my HC2 is missing is a file why is it so hard to fix online.

HC2 boots fine to normal and recovery mode. Just claims a missing file at 40% progress when trying to restore.

robmac, missing file that is first step before recovery disk will have more problem so we prefer to give new then to do temporally solution

and if I was to make a copy of all partitions onto a new 4GB drive what would the issue be?

Please, do not provide "secure backup to Fibaro cloud". Bad idea indeed.

Fibaro still not able to provide reliable remote access service which is much simpler than to create some secure and safe data storage for all clients.

Much better to include some basic functionality to use something like Dropbox (2GB for free should be more than enough), Amazon and / or private FTP/SFTP/SCP server.

I don't agree that a cloud backup would be any better than a local backup at customer site.

All this talk about cloud services where you store you personal and private information on some server you don't have control over and you don't know who has control over it or who will have control over it. I'm thinking of NSA or other companies. If you store anything in a cloud service you have no, what so ever, control over the data anymore.

I agree ONLY on the fact that a backup of all the scenes and the code developed made from customer into HC2 should have the possibility to be backup outside the box.

I think this is a very good idea! It would not be impossible to create a secure enough password system for this type of backup. Then it would be up to the user to store this backup in a secure location. It someone wants to store the backup in a cloud service, feel free to do that, but for those of us who don't want that, another solution should exist.

Or, Andrew, if I have totally misunderstood something here, please explain in more detail why a local backup would be dangerous.

    Regards

    Ulf
