Home Center 2 Failed?

Question

Posted

Well on top of the inconsistent behaviour!

My box has today decided to * itself completely! So ZERO home automation for me!

Noticed the notifications had stopped on gate sensor so investigated to find 4 static lights on HC2 now fom past experience that means unplug me and plug me back in in English!

So after doing so the unit lights up 8...... 7....... 6....... blah blah and then nothing! no lights no access!

HELP?

And before it even gets mentioned! I am NOT losing all my settings! NEVER! So please any advice must be sensible to get my box sorted!

Totally agree HC2 needs a way to backup remotely from the unit to cloud or local server or both.

Then importantly restore to a new pen drive/Fibaro unit.

The pen drives on the units don't appear to be very reliable and at some point anyone may need to swap the controller. If the unit has to go back, being able to use a loan or new unit is vital if you rely on one of these to control your home.

If a dongle is needed to protect Fibaro IP, then make it a second stick so that the backup stick is portable between units but only unlockable when a unit and dongle match on a system. The sticks used are <<1€ so not a big cost compared to shipping units around under warranty.

I agree with Robmac; it's a very big issue that we can't (easily) transfer our configuration to another unit. I'm sure my supplier would be willing to provide me with a loan-device for the time that my own unit would be at Fibaro for a repair. But if it's not possible to transfer setups between devices (or even store a copy of your backup in a safe location, away from your HC2), then it's not much use.

For devices that control everything from heating and so on, having it out of commission for a couple of weeks is not acceptable. Of course the safety issue is something to think about and I'm happy that you guys won't just publish everything in the cloud without giving it some extra thought. But being able to download the config file and store it at a location that I choose myself would be a very welcome possibility. That way I myself am responsible for storing it in a safe location.

Of course somebody might hack my HC2 and download the config themselves, but if they have hacked my system, they can control it anyway...
