Gardena 24V irrigation valve

Question

Posted

Hi

Has anyone tried to integrate Gardena 24V valve like this one

Please login or register to see this link.

with fibaro? I will have 3 valves and thinking how to best deal with it? Would it be possible to controll them with RGBW controller and integrate into sprinklers panel?

I will have also main valve 230V that i could integrate with Siprinkler if RGBW would not be possible so integration is not an issue (I can controll the RGBW separately) - would just need to know if RGBW would work with this Gardena Valve

UPDATE: or actually same question on Gardena 9V valve as well

as it looks like this one may be needed

RGBW would work, but you would need a relay whith a flyback diode between the RGBW and the Gardena. This would do nicely.

Or you could use a pair of Fibaro FGS221, they run nicely on 24VDC

Thanks! But i thinking this 24v valve is AC, would it stil worki with fibaro relay?

Well... technically i assume that the fibaro relay just has a rectifier bridge that passes to a small linear regulator

So, while the spec does not support 24VAC, and I have not tested it... it should work

    But else a RGBW + AC/DC-converter + a relay board should work

My friend has 24 v Ac on his rainbird valves and it works just fine.

    He use fgs221 not rgbw.

With rgbw you can not use the sprinkler panel.

thanks. I understand I need sort of step down from 230 to 24Vac first right?

Yes you need to do that.

google "ac adapter" and you will find lots of it.

    Something like this will do?

Please login or register to see this link.

And one more - do you power the Fibaro Relay switch off 24VAC? the manual does not say it would be supported/

    That ac adapter will work

The IN and O1/O2 terminals of the Fibaro unit are connected directly to the relay, so you can drive 24V valves with it

This is from the manual of ver 1.4-1.7

    110 - 230 V AC ±10% 50/60Hz 24-60V DC ±10%

So no you cant use 24V AC to power the fgs221

I use fgs222 and use 230V and 12V DC to my sprinklers

Ok so i will power fgs222 with 230V and then separately drive the valves with 24VAC, got it - thanks

FGS222 has not 24Vdc, but FGS221 has it, but FGS221 is banned in Sweden so i cant use it,

But 24Vdc is not 24Vac, and your valves is ac,

    From the manual on FGS221

    Power supply:110 - 230 V AC ±10% 50/60Hz 24-60V DC ±10%

    From manual on FGS222

    Power supply:110 - 240V ~ 50 - 60Hz

I ended up with a slightly different setup. Since I have 3 valves, I used one 3kw Relay and one 2x1.5 relay. I used similar wiring diagram as in this post

Please login or register to see this link.

    but with a slight twist:

    1. I power the relay shutters with 24V DC power adapter (from my old scanner). Water and 230V just does not go hand in hand for me

    2. I power the valves with 24V AC power transformer with one wire connected to I on the relay switches and the other wire connected to the valve

    3. Second valve wire goes to O on the relays.

Prototype photo attached (be generous - I am an IT architect, not electrician  LOL )

I think it looks just fine.

Have you test it snd it works?

You wrote Water and 230V just does not go hand in hand for me, not for me eather. I got my FGS222 in the garage and the valves in the garden. Just the cable with 12Vdc goes to the valves in the garden.

    Hi all,

I was wondering why the RGBW Relay cannot be used as a actuator for the sprinklers, at least not in the sprinkler panel?

Are there any plans to do that, because for 3 sprinkler zones you need at least 2 usual relays where you could use one RGBW relay also for the Rain-sensor input?!

    Cheers
