HC2 with HRT4-ZW, HRT4 ASR-ZW and Danfoss LC13

Question

Posted

Hi

I bought the HC2 and some Danfoss LC13 valves - hoping to get zoned heating.

Realised that I need something to switch the boiler on and off - so got the [secure brand] wireless thermostat and receiver (boiler relay essentially)

This is better - I can control the boiler via the thermostat - and I can also run a heating schedule to switch on the boiler at various times and bring the room to a certain temp.

But it is only the room with the thermostat in which I control.

So - at 9am the HC tells the boiler to switch on and make the room 19C for example. Great - but - what about the other rooms ?

I had wanted to ensure that some rooms were warm in the morning, and others warm at bed time. It seems that the thermostat is controlling the boiler (which of course makes sense) - but am I missing something ?

There seems to way to change the set point of the Danfoss LC13 valves - eg to have the kitchen warm in a morning, and the one in the bedroom to have a higher temp at night - if this were possible then I appreciate that the Secure thermostat ultimately rules boiler on / off, but I was happy to have that in a common area (say the hall) and then control other rooms within that 'heating time frame'

Not sure if this makes sense - not sure I can see the point of the danfoss valves at the moment if I have to adjust them manually. Might as well go back to the manual TRV's I took off a month ago

I can see something might be possible with LUA commands - if so, great. But I just want to check I am not missing something obvious ?

thanks in advance

Si

Hi

You can run scenes that control thermostats and simultaneously turn on the boiler.

Possibly place HRT4-ZW in the most important room, for example living room.

I control my Danfoss with scenes. And the flow temperature, with

FIB_FGMS-001 and yahoo weather data (only temperature)

Unfortunately, yahoo weather data not worked properly for about one week.

Hope there are some ideas.

You should be using the Heating Panel to set the schedule for the rooms in which you have a Danfoss valve and use the Secure thermostat(s) as manual overrides for the schedule you have set in the Heating panel. But - none of this will work properly without temperature sensors in every room. Without temperature sensors the Fibaro Home Center will not know that a room is too cold and that it needs to turn on your boiler...

So, what you need is this:

- a HRT4 ASR-ZW as the main heating switch to control your boiler

- a Danfoss valve on every radiator in every room for which you want to control the temperature (some rooms may have multiple radiators)

- a temperature sensor in every room you want to control

- a thermostat in every room for which you want to be able to override the schedule you have defined in the Heating Panel. Note that the Secure wall thermostats include a temperature sensor...

- several scenes to manage the boiler on / off commands (the Heating Panel cannot deal with the situation where one room needs heat and wants the boiler on when another room no longer needs heat and wants the boiler off... So you need to manage that with a scene)

Thanks to both of you for your help.

Martijnt - thanks for your guidance - i think you identified my problem -  (the Heating Panel cannot deal with the situation where one room needs heat and wants the boiler on when another room no longer needs heat and wants the boiler off... So you need to manage that with a scene)

I had thought it might be possible - i obviously didnt give this the amount of thought required

i have the hardware you mentioned HRT4 ASR-ZW and the Danfoxx LC13 valves

my final question relates to scene itself

are there many scenes pre-written ? - should i be looking somewhere for these ? -  i am happy to try and do it myself but its very cold this winter and i may freeze before i resolve the issue

thanks in advance for any guidance

    kind regards

    simon
