Fibaro FGD-211 and FGD-212 on smartthings with Momentary Switches

Question

Posted

I have several Fibaro FGD-211 and FGD-212 on Smartthings Hub 2 with Momentary Switches (MK Grid type).

When I initially add a dimmer to the hub it works fine on both the wall momentary switch and also with the app and Z-wave control via the hub. But after a few minutes, the hub seems to reconfigure the dimmer parameters(?) so that the wall hardware switch doesn't work at all. The app continues to work fine for control. I note that there are some Device Handlers in the smarttthings community that should solve this problem but don't seem to.

This is quite a critical problem as I have dimmers in every room and at the moment I cannot connect them to the hub - otherwise when you walk into the room and use the light switch it doesn't work.

So... when you click S1 nothing happens? And when you hold S1 for a few seconds, it doesn't dim up?

For the first few moments the switch works perfectly.  Short press of S1 switches the circuit on/off, press and hold S1 dims it up and then down. Which is how I want it configured.

Then after a period of time it doesn't.  In order to put it back in the right switching mode I press and hold S1, release it, press and hold and release it, and then...Short press of S1 switches the circuit on/off, press and hold S1 dims it up and then down.

Then after a period of time it doesn't.

    Any thoughts?

I have configured a device handler on Smartthings according to the log on the Smartthings hub sets the following:

Yes, that does ring a bell. But only for the older fgd-211. There's an issue called "the triple click problem". It's a firmware bug and these modules are not upgradeable. The bug manifests itself randomly and on rare occasions. Unless you use associations and s2 if my memory serves me well. It's called like that because you want to turn on the light, but it only does so on the 3rd click. I'll see if I can find out more, my memory fails at the moment. I have both dimmers and I have experienced this issue (on the old one). I now use scene activation instead of association (not only for this reason).

Here's an idea: can you remove *all* associations from the dimmer?  Your hub will no longer have the correct status, but it's only a test. You should be able to control the switch locally and remotely.

Edit: as @scr321 stated, set 'Parameter No. 10  - Time of Automatic moving the Dimmer between the extreme dimming values.' to 'disabled' to get rid of the 3-click problem.

It seems that disabling the 'Parameter No. 10 - Time of Automatic moving the Dimmer between the extreme dimming values.' functionality seems to have solved the issue.

Many thanks for your help.  Sadly it means I've lost the smooth transitioning between on and off, but it does mean I've gained a lot of working wall switches.

Right, that brings back some of my memory. I think there is - indeed - no other option... Thanks for the feedback!
