And its low voltage so could be run off a battery and nice and safe around your tank.

I like your solution with the float switches. At room temperature, the RGBW consumes 15 - 20 mA (idle). If my math is correct, you need a car battery to run it for (only) a few months. Hmm - add solar power? The UBS has about the same power consumption, but it's an alternative thats less expensive and has 2 inputs...

@petergebruers Then maybe a low voltage cable strung like a cloths line, Ive seen it before;D

My VD seemed a tad over complicated. The  float switches have changeover contacts. By the time I converted switch  actions with global variables,  changed the globals for one condition back as you introduce the global for the new condition things got  a bit busy. I had to keep adding layers to get the tank level to update.

It works but Im starting to think I had the wrong approach.

Does elseif work in VD's?

Patent it: "Dual purpose laundry cable"!  You could add some LED lights too.

:-D

Have fun with the Lua part!

Here is my simple, cheap, VD for tank level indication  with a two float switches solution.

                        1x UBS

1x Power supply in the 9V to 30V DC range, A 12V DC power pack proberly the easiest to find

1x Plastic box to put UBS and connections in, with some cable pack glands for flexes.

.....and I guess a tank is important.

1/ Set up UBS  power supply.

2/ Include UBS in system do this beside HC

3/ Configure UBS, I set up "sensor type" as  "Flood sensor"

4/ Change parameter 3 to setting  3- input Bistable.

5/ Install float switches at selected heights in tank, If the tank is plastic a couple of cable packglands are great for this.

6/ Connect up cables. The 12v + to UBS red wire. The 12v- common to the UBS blue wire.

Tank Floats,  lower float common wire to UBS blue.

(When Tank is in empty condition) , the lower float 'open contact' feeds both the upper float switch 'common' and the UBS 'yellow wire'.

And the upper float 'open contact' feeds the 'green' UBS wire. Those float switches each have another closed contact wire we are not using so blank them off. You should also blank off unsued UBS wires.

7/ Download vfib and install VD

8/ Set up Global variables: tankFull, tankEmpty, tankHalfFull .

9/ I Have loaded logs and debug.

Don't be to harsh but this is a learning game so let me know your thoughts.

. @AutoFrank's VD tutorial gave me the calls needed for this Thankyou Frank
