Question

Posted

I spoke too loudley

yesterday I posted how good my system had been going and after finishing the last icon for weather scene and VDs, which were working great,

I did a back up from which Hc2 never came back.

Im trying to reinstall my previous back up after recovery

The queston is  how long shall I give this before I pull the pin and try again?

Shes been going 40 minutes now I think Im going to pull the pin and re do recovery ]:->

HI @Jamie mccrostie

I'd say let it run for an hour max and if no luck power down (by switch at back if possible) and start again...

Im flagging it, it was the back up it did when it went down but I had to try that first.

Hmm looks like Im up *abuse* creek no working back ups for 4.120.

Ironic it happened while backing up.

I dont understand why the dont give you a easy roll back option, say the latest and the last non beta.

This will be my 3rd rebuild so at least I know what to do...... it is starting to loose its shine though:roll:

For what's it worth, I tried the 'delete zwave - yes" and the devcies were brought back in with the backup

would a 4.11 backup be compatable

I did "no" to that and you could see all the unconfigured devices at the shipped firmware stage. What was the advantage of "yes" I think I have multable backups for every version but 4.120

Cant you get previous versions from developer site somewhere?

it may help clear out any residuals but i'm not sure to be honest

I've never done this .. sorry

    ...

This sounds like what happened to me a while back when the back up failed

Eventually this is what resolved it for me

    1. Recover by normal process - No to zwave device delete (as I was too nervous at that time)
      • [This brought me to 4.034]
    2. Upgrade to 4.120 (no devices will be visible here)
    3. Run wizard to create email and password login (I used same as before)
    4. Restore from backup...

Yes Ive done that twice tonight already, soon to be a third time

but my options are limited somewhat at the restore lates back up bit

what the hell I think Ill press yes. "What could possibly go wrong"

    Hi @Jamie mccrostie,

Sorry that you have trouble with HC. Also sorry that I can't be of any help, but until now I never had to do recovery on my Angelina except simple backup recovery that always did the trick. Good luck with it!

Did the recovery page always have the "moving" between hc's and "downloading"options boxes with "temp unavalible" written on them ?

or is this like the"ventilation" tab on the apps? There but not there

That temporary unavailable thing has been there for as long as I can remember. I have lost count, but I have done more than 20 recoveries.

The erase z-wave thing is somewhat complicated. Don't erase if you are unsure about the quality of the backup. If you don't erase, you can run a recovery and your devices will be there... Alternatively, if you erase the chip, and your backup is ok, your devices will be there after the restore... And lastly, if you erase but the backup/restore is nok, you'll have to reset and include all your devices.

    @Jamie mccrostie

the same thing just happened to me :-)

I started a backup from work and it was still running 2 hours later so I switched off via the button and restarted but still restarting 30 mins later

I'll try a few other things before I get to recovery.....

    Update..

Just starting the recovery process now to a backup from yesterday...

The system was running fine up to about 2pm

I was modifying a simple VD remotely around that time and it wasn't saving correctly but I thought it was a glitch.

I then started a backup and it failed.....

    @Jamie mccrostie

What were you doing before the backup failed... ?

Just wondering what FW version you guys where (are) on?

And why on earth would creating a backup be such a disaster??

    Jim

    P.s.

Just wondering how this looked before you did the backup?

Please login or register to see this attachment.

I usually do a verify before upgrading or creating a backup (that is if I don't forget).

I also have absolutely NO idea if this helps, it's just me being paranoid ;) !!

it didn't for me either up to today so this is a bit odd..

I've been doing very little since I rebuilt and have been backing up every other day without issue

it's been very stable since. The only thing I did differently was I kicked off the backup remotely...

I'll see how the recovery goes.

it recovered to 4.031 and the option to upgrade to 4.120 is missing

Please login or register to see this attachment.

a quick look at the recovery has checksum as "Not Available"

Please login or register to see this attachment.

I tried a restore about 20 mins ago from 4.031 to a 4.120 backup and it didn't complete successfully

does anybody have a link to a 4.120 upgrade, ?

This is what I'd normally do before restoring from backup...

    UPDATE

I found the upgrade = on the Homepage there was a link and when I clicked it , the backup became visible on on the General tab....

    Starting the 4.120 upgrade

    UPDATE 2

    upgrade went okay

    time for backup from restore...

I'm trying to see if the backup that hung my system today will restore (more from curiosity)

Failing that I'll try the backup from 4 days ago after that ...
