Adding devices, a breakthrough at last .... :-)

Hi,

Some of you may have heard me talk (rant really ) about the trouble I have been having adding devices for the last several months....

My system has grown to about 100 devices, ha bridge to 5 echo dots, sonos api to 14 zones, bridge to 12 alarm zones .. so it's quite busy.....

I usually ended up with a lot of frustration and many half configured and not configured devices

Fibaro support dialed in a gain this week and did a clean up for me, removing all these non functional devices (thannks fibaro support .. again)

This is probably the 4 time I've had them remote in to my system and clean up my mess.

... well today I had a break through

Jobs today was to add a fibaro relay and try and sort out the UBS that tracks my front gate status.

I created a backup so I'd have a known good state to go back to...(I learnt this the hard way)

I tried adding the fibaro dual relay from 5 foot and nothing

I then tried from 2 inches and the first time it included half and relay and then after some massaging the full relay appeared. - good start

I then added the UBS (I'm using a 20V, 65W good power supply) and I got half the slaves and not the one I wanted of course, so I tried deleting and adding again and the usual mess or half configured/deleted devices appeared over the next 30 mins with no sign of success....

.. so I restored the last good backup and all was good again (but still no progress)

One coffee later and I decided to disable all my automation (scenes and vd's) - I published the method I use about a week ago

I disabled all automation and rebooted for a fresh start

I tried the fibaro relay  and hey presto - it included first time, all slaves .. in about 15 seconds.. (smiling now , but one data point is not a trend)

I added my UBS for a gate and again it added in about 20 seconds, all slaves and all working flawlessly... (.. now two data points. hmmmmm)

On a roll now so I added another UBS with 3 temp probes (to monitor the rack temp) and success again with a ll probes responding.... (3 data points)

I then tried another UBS (used to monitor the under-stairs door for light on/off) and success again (4 data points, almost a trend)

By the end of the day I have added 1 dual relay, 1 dimmer 1 (to use as a repeater)  and 6 UBS for with for various nputs/temp probes

All without issue and all functioning perfectly. I haven't had success like this for a long while.

I backed up, re-enabled the automation and rebooted and up popped my system, all working perfectly.....

@petergebruers had mentioned a few times that the inclusion process is very intense on the system and what I observed today would gel with that ..

.. so if your system is giving you grief as you try and add devices you could try and disable the scenes and vd's  and see if that helps, particularly if your system is somewhat complex....

Good HA day today :-) .

... now time for glass of wine.....

_f

    Very good news,

I am kust wondering what the tipping point is: main loops in VD's, time based scene or combination.

I am slowly integrating this :)

Nice to hear good news. Bravo! Now I understand what you needed to achieve with VD and scene abort.

    @AutoFrank, thank you for sharing!
