So is the Fibaro Button working for anybody?

Question

Posted

I am about to throw my Fibaro Button in the bin. It may work once in 20-30 attempts, maybe. I just want to use it to turn lights on and off, but it almost never works, and I certainly can't switch them on and off again in the same evening.

Anyone @Fibaro with a solution to this or do I just throw it away? I am done trying to get it to work, it just annoys me to look at it.

Might wel be. Even in my webgui before it shows that battery was full. but didn't do the job, maybe when you press the button that it draws so much current that its not able to sent the data at the distance from button to HC2. What I tried was to put the button closer to the controller and check again,if it works better.

Anyone got a multimeter and a 68 ohm resistor? Load the battery with the resistor. If voltage > 3.0 it is OK. If it is between 3.0 and 2.8  it is marginal. Below 2.8 is NOK. The Z-Wave chip uses about 40 - 45 mA to transmit data and it does not work below 2.8 V. This is from personal experience, not some sort of spec.

After failed communication attempt (eg. no Z-Wave range) the device will go into Z-Wave communication standby and retry to establish connection with the main controller after the next time interval. < not stated that it sent its info through the mesh network

The device does use routing (mesh). I checked in a dead spot (meaning: a place know to have no direct connection to the controller), no issues at all. It finds a route all by itself, as expected from a Z-Wave Plus device...

I will check if I have that resistor in my collection.

I had a 69 ohm resistor which ought to be close enough? Voltage measured 3.06 for the battery Im using with my button.

That's OK.

BTW sending a button click is short, but inclusion can take 10 seconds or longer... So you might want to check if the battery can sustain that voltage level during the time it takes to include...

I have moved the button 20 cm from my HC2 now. Sitting there it seems to work good so far. Will try it some more.

My button is pretty non-functional as well.  Most of the time it says "Transfer Failure".  I have tried it in different places in the house, but no luck.  What does this error imply ?

Thanks for reporting back. Here is the odd thing: mine is OK (and I am not an exception) and I have got one of the oldest devices... I use it every day. I am speculating that there is an issue with some devices. Can't you ask for a warranty exchange?

Edit: I agree it takes a certain amount of force. Originally, this product was called "Panic Button" and I guess it was designed to take a little more force than, for example, the Fibaro Keyfob with tha application in mind...

too late for warranty unfortunately..

so i have to live with that or throw it away ...

will be my last device like that. not acceptable for me at that price.

and regarding the "force" - i disagree. i click, i can hear the "click" so it should work ... but no

I know Fibaro wants happy customers, so I'd mail support anyway. Maybe they can help you.

With what or whom do you "disagree"? I think I said it takes "a little more force than, for example, the Fibaro Keyfob" - don't you agree with that?

i disagree on the fact that we are ok to hit the button with more strength they requested for such application;

email to [email protected] ?

I did not say you have to be OK with it... I also did not say that I am OK with it...

Are you using only the button template to trigger scenes, or are you using extra 'scenes' (like the one from Sankotronic to trigger the button?

Before i had a scene which can trigger the button(actions) and I put triggers in the button template. That gave me conflicts, removed scene or put on manual and the button was doing its job.. when close by the hc2... after that i still had a battery problem. (replaced battery, all fine)

I have had mine 20cm from the HC2 for one week now and it still seems to work ok.

I have already replaced mine once. I got the second one from the same reseller so it might have been from the same "bad batch".

I have four Black buttons, all brought at the same time - about 6 months ago - and they all work fine, including multiple click actions.  The only thing I haven't been able to get them to do is to brighten/dim lights with the 'press & hold' action.

The trick I used was to do the Inclusion with the Button sitting beside the HC2.
