Migration from fibaro HC2 to HC3

Don't want to put anyones mood down, but from official Q/A (80 questions) document from my supplier from Fibaro this is stated:

From Q/A document:

  1. Will there be any way to migrate from HC2 or HCL to Home Center 3?

"

With HC3 update 5.021 planned for 20.02.2020, an update for HC2 and HCL will be released, allowing for migration of devices from these units to HC3 (without reconfiguring or removing them).

The migration will also transfer their name.

Of course, although we are working on this element, there may be situations that we are not able to predict and the conversion of some devices will end in failure.
The whole process will be based on the exchange of controllers to keep the Z-Wave network settings unchanged.

HC3 will become the default controller with Node ID = 1 to which other devices will report changes.

"

So, if they haven't solved migration in 2 weeks then it's still devices only.

I think just devices are great acomplisment for now as block and lua scenes are completely differentin FIBARO OS 5, than in FIBARO OS 4.

I would be happy with devices only if that's what it is. Still al lot of work with all scenes and virtual devices. What do you mean by 2 weeks? The release was planned for last week?

Did you see the change log as well? Restoring a backup, it would be a pity if indeed only devices were retrieved from there. But okay, maybe wishful thinking.

I got the Q/A document about 2 weeks ago.

I haven't seen any changelogs.

Restoring backup from HC2 to HC3 is devices only.

Beta is out as wel for the HC2. Indeed no Scenes or VDs will be migrated.

Beta software changes list 4.581:

Version 4.581 Beta

The possibility of transferring the cloud backup to Home Center 3!
- Use the Transfer Configuration feature available from the Remote Access (home.fibaro.com).
- Both gateways must be assigned to the same Fibaro ID account and available on the Home Center list.
- The backup must be created on version 4.581 or higher.
- Home Center 3 must be on version 5.021 or higher.
- All Z-Wave devices, their configuration, room assignment, associations and parameters will be transferred.
- If you have thermostats, they will await reconfiguration.
- Scenes will not be moved and need to be created again.
- Virtual devices will not be moved. Use a new tool - Quick Apps - to implement them.
- The gateway from which you are moving the backup will still be available, but the devices will no longer communicate at all.
- The migration process cannot be undone - it is irreversible.

One thing, that is not mention in changelog. Icons of devices and Rooms are transfered too.

That saves some work as well. :)

Just did the transfer from HC2 4.581Beta to HC3 5.021.38.

Rooms, Sections and Devices have been transferred. Local Admin-Account not transferred?

Device configuration (e.g. "Timer Auto On/Off") seems to be transferred, too.

Approx. 50 Z-Wave devices. Transfer via Fibaro Home (Fibaro ID, Cloud) went fine as described.

No scenes have been transferred.

Some reboots helped.

New UI still needs some fine-tuning. But things are fine so far.

Thank you, Fibaro :)

And many thanks to all of you, Guys

What happens to the HC2 after migration? Where you able to look at the old scenes while building the new ones? Or was did the HC2 reset to factory default?

Hi Joost

When transferring Z-Wave devices from HC2 to HC3 all associations and device-specific configuration (Z-Wave "Parameters") have still been available after transfer. As I expected. From my point of view, this migration went straight forward and as I could expect, given the information and descriptions I had.

After transfer of devices there had not been any scenes on HC3. But my old HC2 remembered my block scenes. As described by Fibaro and as I had expected. So I logged in into both gateways (in 2 different browser windows) and re-built the scenes (about 20) using my old (block-)scenes from HC2 as input. I do not remember, if all details of my scenes had been conserved. However, it was enough information to me to re-build my scenes on HC3 (as block scenes). I have not tested any LUA scenes. So I cannot give an answer to LUA scenes at all.

In summary: when transferring the Z-Wave devices as described from Fibaro, you will still have your old block scenes available on your old HC2 gateway for manually re-building them on your new HC3. That's what I've learned so far...

Tnx! Migrated my devices yesterday. Only the Aoetec RGB dimmer gives some connection issues (which was hard to connect to the HC2 as well). Recreating my scenes by hand, but having an example helps :)

Migration was kind of scary tough, during the proces you have to agree to reset the HC2. Luckily it only resets the ZWAVE netwerk.

I've not tested every switch, but the main switches seem to work trouble free.

That's good news.

I did not have major issues either but I'd like to post a warning, for some users the "dashboard" does not show up after migration and it seems likely to be caused by some non-fibaro thermostats. When I write this, Fibaro is working on a fix but there is no ETA of the next update. So worst case you might need help from support.

A few reports here...

Just noticed that somehow 1 configured heat controller did not migrate. One defect heat controller did however migrate very well. Think i have to count my device to make sure none were skipped.

Currently, iPhone X and above phones do not receive notifications from fibaro. When I installed a context.

When activated, the context will send a message to inform my phone surface.

But currently my Iphone is not receiving notifications despite having fibaro notifications on.

I need your support.

Thanking you
