What is switching my Aircon OFF???

pflugj

Question

Hi.
I have  a "linked device"  Thermostat which is set up as follows:

Please login or register to see this image.

/monthly_2023_11/image.png.d323dd84203dc3a67424857f5efb08a4.png" />

The Thermostat setting are this:
image.png.416b5def2428031290ec51e8896991dc.png

Every time the temperature sensor "Ceiling@Office" updates the temperature, the Air-con switches OFF - WHY?????
I find this in the history:

Please login or register to see this attachment.

The Ceiling@Office sensor is clearly above the cooling temperature!
There is NO association between the ceiling sensor and the air-con!

I can not figure out why this is happening :-(
What am I missing here?
Any ideas??

Thx for helping

It seems to me that there can be 2 answers

1. this is a bug in the system related to setups where the heating and cooling device s the same,

2. ther can be some other issue with connection stability to the temperature sensor. Does the temperature sensor have a stable connetion? Is it a batter powered one?

Side question / how is your AC connected to Fibaro?

Maybe the climate chedule itself? How is it set?

  • Hi I also checked this a couple of times
When editing the temperature Zone I get this:

Please login or register to see this image.

    /monthly_2023_11/image.png.0282022e4d5e082274134d539c22d880.png" />

....and after a few seconds this

    image.png.bcc9b5fe62279497953032f321db052c.png

The "Select zone temperature sensor:" is EMPTY 🤔
Sometime it is missing and sometimes it is not!

And I always reconfigure the zone to the right sensor:
    image.png.3a0f7fb841e71fe71a59e8280affb060.png

    ...and after saving the zone.

The sensor is sometimes missing - AGAIN!

However, the zone setting are very simple
I just disabled the Zone to avoid interference from here:

If the thermostat initiated a switch On/Off, then I would expect to see something like this in the history:

Please login or register to see this attachment.

BUT this is not the case:
    image.thumb.png.62333cadf51b2c6b751246cf00d3aff0.png

The Sensor changes value and the Air-con switches OFF!

.... and I still donẗ see why 🤔

    thanks for helping

This did NOT happen in FW: 5.141.59
It happens in the the next and the current version  5.150.15

I had opened a support ticket on the 20 Oct,  but only got a reply, late last night - but so far NO solution

  • The Air-con toggles ON/OFF with EVERY temperature update

  • Hi.

The AC is switched by a

    Fibaro Double Switch 2 FGS-223

The sensor is a battery powered

    Fibaro Motion Sensor FGMS-001

Both are less than 2 meters from the HC3

The switch is just disconnecting mains from the unit.
I verified with the installer that the unit can handle mains on/off switching.

(It is a split unit with an inverter, not the old compressor ON/OFF type)

This did NOT happen in FW: 5.141.59
It happens in the the next and the current version  5.150.15
I did report this to Fibaro but so far NO solution

@pflugj I've also had issues with climate zones and virtual thermostats (linked devices)

Below is just my experience, and how I got them running successfully.  I don't claim, this is the only solution.

Make sure the linked devices, temp sensor and switch module, don't have any associations with other devices.

I also don't use the climate zone temp sensors, in a scene.

As long as you can't setup the climate zone with the virtual thermostat (linked devices) successfully, this won't work.

Maybe use another temp sensor temporarely.

In my case, I don't use battery powererd temp sensors any more, for climate zones.  I've tried with the fibaro motion sensor and the smoke sensor

As temp sensors for my climate zones I use:

    Aeotec multisensor 6

Fibaro Smart Implant with BS18B20 temp sensors

    Fibaro walli controller

    All with power supply.

more, because the main controller is NOT aware of those direct interactions ( as far as I know)

as I wrote before , this did NOT happen in FW: 5.141.59
So I restored that version and it works as intended!

I guess that the new Thermostat "Hysteresis" settings, has something to do with this.

Thanks for helping, cheers and happy home-automation :-)
What would we do, with all the spare time :-)

  • For your interest:
Fibaro has changed the thermostat behavior.
This is what I received yesterday:

    Quote

A heating device will be turned on by the logic related to the heating, but simultaneously turned off by the logic related to the cooling (analogous situation if the current temperature would be above the setpoint).

Which makes sense, when using different devices for heating and cooling!
This does obviously does NOT work, when the same device is used for heating and cooling.
I think this behavior is a bug, when using the same device!
... and should be rectified or somehow be tackled by Fibaro

I did set my aircon to automatic mode ( heat or cool) at a temperature, somewhere between the set-points for heating and cooling.

Thus effectively increasing the hysteresis between heat and cool.
...and even more important, saving power

For the time being, I have removed the Air-con as heating device from the thermostat.

At the moment I see only one way to get this working again as intended:
Creating 2 thermostat's, one for heating and one for cooling.

    Cheers and happy "home-automation" 😀

@pflugj Hi, thanks for the infos.

If I understand correctly, the fibaro climate zone on fw 5.150, can't work, when the heating and the cooling device, have the same name.

Did you try use one chanel of your FGS-223 for heating and the other for cooling? Both Q1 and Q2 connected to your aircon. Give each of the outputs another name.

Just curios, which brand/model aircondition with cooling/heating, are you using?

  • No, I didn´t try the different outputs.
This might actually be a nice idea👍, because I could then distinguish between "heating"and "cooling" power end energy consumption.
I will try that if Fibaro does not come up with a fix for this

At the moment I will not do this, because I am switching the air-con of when a window or a door in that room opens.
Therefore I have written a LUA scene, which disables the "Thermostat" and the assigned "Climate Zone",
When a door or a windows is opened for more then "X" seconds

    The air-con brand is "MIDEA"
The have a feature cold "AUTO-START"
Meaning: AFTER a power-cut,  it remembers the last set mode!

    cheers
