Question

Posted

In Europe starting from june this year 2025, the European energy exchanges (including EPEX Spot for The Netherlands) will switch to quarterly prices instead of hourly prices.

Can the energy panel handle quarterly prices?

(And if not, are there plans do adapt to the quarterly energy prices?)

Seems to be possible to update in the energy panel. But does it work with the calculations? 😅

    Thanks

Indeed, we also somehow have to be able to relate the consumption and production to that quarterly prices, the calculations like Brors94 wrote.

In the Netherlands, Germany and Sweden – all EU member states – the transition to quarterly rates is mandatory as of June 2025. These countries fall under the Single Day-Ahead Coupling (SDAC) system, which integrates the European energy markets. The EPEX SPOT exchange, which serves these countries, is adjusting its trading structure to 15-minute intervals. For Tibber, this means that dynamic contracts in these countries will be settled on a quarterly basis as of June 2025 (starting at 12th June), in line with the EU regulation.

Norway, a non-EU member but connected through the European Economic Area (EEA), operates on the Nord Pool exchange. Although Nord Pool historically uses hourly rates, it has launched experimental 15-minute products for professional market participants since 2023. However, the hourly rate system remains dominant for consumer contracts. Tibber follows the Norwegian model here, which means that dynamic rates in Norway will remain hourly for the time being. A full transition to quarterly rates is not planned here before 2026.

Do you have some more insight?

I did discuss this with the team, it is not type of change "just like that" as we need to change some mechanisms under the hood to allow that.
We did plan the activity but it won't be available in next weeks, probably it will be ready for 5.191 Beta version.

Thanks. I will wait with inserting quarterly tariffs and energy.
