I need to admit - Sonos integration - brilliant idea.

Really brilliant indeed, just annoyed that I bought heavily into Squeezebox a couple of years ago.

I would love to have Squeezebox support too. Is there any sonos emulators? Regarding Squeezeboxes there are few which act just like real ones (squeezelite and squeezeslave). For example on one Raspberry Pi I'm running (next to XBMC) squeezeslave for HDMI audio and squeezelite for connecting to A2DP bluetooth speaker in other room. If you will buy surroung USB audio dongle then you can actually run four instances of squeezelite which will act as four independent Squeezebox devices in Logitech Media Server (you need only to place the wire for different part of your home -

).

So .. bottom line having support for Squeezebox would be nice

GrZeCh,

i doubt. Squeezbox is open-source project, that's why we have many different clients and servers.

Sonos is closed source solution

Still work well.

Have basics working well with hc2.

Just need more options in virtual device to make a good interface to display tracklist etc.

Integration with SONOS?

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!

It's WONDERFUL!!!!

Not really sure what to expect from this Sonos integration. Also, I don't have Sonos because I based everything on XBMC. I was going to write "I hope Fibaro OS 4 will also support XBMC" but to be honest, I can't think of anything I'd want other than what I already have now using the Fibaro XBMC plugin and some virtual devices

What kind of added value does integration of Sonos (or XBMC, or ...) give us?

I'm really hoping for a separate app or web-interface to be used only on a tablet hanging on the wall. In that, Sonos, Squeezebox or XBMC integration could be useful, since you then have a screen that controls your thermostats, alarm, garden sprinklers, etc.

The current iPad app does that somewhat, but is way too busy for everyday use and as a user you can hardly modify it to suit your needs. This is more in the right direction:

+1

Current iPad app is more a toy (over-bloated) than useful control panel...

It is good to show to friends (WOW-factor), but not to manage a house on a daily basis.

There should be some streamlined, simplified UI available

For me I would like to say you can use ipad app. But in this case you need an other app to put for tactil screen to put on a wall.

I too think you would need 2 separate apps for that. But Fibaro is very busy in developing some nice things. Unless they present something like this all of a sudden, I don't expect it to be high on their agenda. Wouldn't it be easier (and faster) if we would take matters in our own hands on this and develop something ourselves that would fulfill our needs?

I think most of the things we would like to do can be controlled with http-commands through a web-interface displayed on a tablet. This would provide the flexiblity to adjust everything to your own liking, display just the information that you need, where you need it. Also, you can easily integrate other devices there, like consumption data, xbmc, Sonos/Squeezebox, weather info, etc.

For a good PHP/HTML5 developer, I can't imagine setting up the frame-work would be a very difficult task? The main problem will probably be adjusting each button or device to do what you want it to do. If you're looking for the flexibility mentioned above, that would probably be quite tedious to make it easy to work with for people who don't want to get "under the hood".

The main problem - missing SDK / proper API.

Of course I'm far from an expert, but won't we be able to come quite far with http commands? With that it probably won't be easy to make the color-wheel for the RGBW-module work, or present the graphs from the HC2-power consumption, but it would be a start.

I see advantages in going that route, because then you can really make a panel that integrates all your home automation, even if they aren't designed to work together.

I would like to see support for the smoke sensor they already are shipping, like the "Black box". Fibaro has this in there conmersial on YouTube, but not for delivery to there customers. Kind of strange priority, do you not agree?

Posted

I disagree - I rather get the smoke sensor today and can already use this device - not wait until they get HC2 software finished to support black box.. smoke sensors waiting in their warehouse.

Be patient and I think you will be pleased when they release software 4.xx

My answer to a proper control from iPhone and/or iPad is to use iRule. It allows you to create your own icons, put them anywhere on the screen and can easily trigger a scene, light on/of etc using "/api/sceneControl?id=31&action=start", "api/callAction?deviceID=64&name=setValue&arg1=0" or "api/callAction?deviceID=61&name=turnoff". In the past I used Redeye for this but that product died. iRule can do at least the same as Redeye (to my surprise initially..) and is far easier to configure. No scripting needed, just drag and drop sort of 'programming'. My Fibaro stuff is stable and I'm definitely a fan of the product now. iRule is somewhat further is the development and product stability curve.

All the best,

Hans

HansW,

how can you GET status (on/off/percent of dim) via HTTP ?

Posted

Alex57,

I didn't figure that out yet. I only have iRule for 3 weeks now so not an expert yet. I'm at the point that I can control all devices one-direction. As it's over IP you don't have to point to an IR receiver and so this one-way control is reliable and suits me very well for now. But feedback is fully supported by iRule so when you know the command to get status or values out of the HC2 then the rest will be easy. You can easily display status in iRule by a button color change or so. To display a % value (lights dim level) may prove to be a challenge. Anyone out there that can tell how to obtain a status/value for a HC2 device using HTTP get ?

Regards,

Hans
