There are several difficulties with them.

1) There is no possibility to set static IP address. So I use work around, my VD tries to find device IP, by MAC address.

 

 

Specifically this problem is not difficult to solve by the configuration of the router (almost any). Suffice it register a static IP-address for the device MAC-address in the router DHCP server settings.

I have done that on my unit and got a fixed IP address. The VD lua needs rewriting for this tho, how does it help though. It seems to work well by the mac address?

But unfortunately not all users have enough experience and know how to set up router. That's why we implemented this method.

Current VD just tries to send data to current IP and PORT. If request sending was failed -> it tries to find device by MAC again.

 

So VD will work with static or dynamic IP address.

nice topic about multiroom. its always important to keep update about new products.

 

i personaly use the same sistem as Julexmon. a band os rasp, with lms on small old pc. who i also used to run SARAH V3.

perfect with my HC2,

 

but i recently buy a HCL, and now yes i have some trouble, because the VD are in LUA, and since V4, HCL dont work with it. so i am looking to get the good strings, for sonos i get it on a post. HCL with sonos no problem.

 

Roman, i as also curious about this solution, but i also see than your VD is on Lua, is there HCL version ?

Yes I agree with you.

Personally I developed my own multiroom system based on small PC and 7.1 Hi-Fi audio card. It was 4 years ago, so I didn't find needed products on market with good price.

I think it's possible to create VD for HC Lite but very common functionality. Because we can only emulate HTTP requests.

 

Probably only one way to use it in HC Lite is to develop Plugin (not VD) for it.

most part of vd from sonos. you find on web are to much simple, no tts, just some radio, and forget about tts.

 

squeezebox are the first budget fo multiroom i think, but sincerely its tricky to sync them, if you have some in wifi ...forget about. i got huge delay.

 

so if iest manage to develop a product with amplification... 20 to 50 per channel, with good price... it will blast market.

No, I have not. 

Anyways did you see the change in M30. No sd card but USB port now. I think thats great.

I agree with HomeSystem.sk about ROCKI... The only way it works fine is via Spotify becuase the main app is not working great (volume problems, not to mention the lack of a multiroom capabilities), and if you decide to turn off your speakers to which the ROCKI is connected it somehow looses the connection with the app. Therefore, if you want to play some music you have to turn on the speakers and restart ROCKI in order to make it vissable in its app. This is my expirience with it so far. So what i did is to disconect its internal battery and power it with a wall plug and now i start the speakers firs and then ROCKI and i works (not with all available radio stations though), but it works. It seems the manufacturer stoped completely its support.. no updates of the app for more then 6 months or even more...

 

About the iEAST, well it may work, i haven't tested it, and i agree with HomeSystem.sl again on the topic that you have to have a synk button with the other devices available in the different rooms. It is handy. BUT, the main problem with VD and Fibaro is that WE SIMPLY DO NOT HAVE THE PLAYLIST AVAILABLE and directly choose from it! Not to mention that w are not able to see pictures of the album etc. like in other apps in a smart phone. Other companies can do that and you can see like in a winamp and basicly all other players out there all the songs that you have. A customer recently get to other smart home solution just because of that. He wanted to have its playlist on the screen.... FIBARO, PLEASE do something about it!

 

Another issue, concerning the music, is that the HC2 itself does have on the matherboard a VGA (as far as i can remember) output and a 3,5mm stereo output WHICH ARE NOT IN USE! Why is that?! They are there, so it is a matter of a software solution to use them! You have 1 extra USB port for lets say external HDD so you have the hardware needed to connect HC2 to my main TV and Receiver at home and to connect mu 500gb external HDD (in which i safe all my movies and music) and that way you will have all in 1 controller, on the palm of your hand, BUT THE FIBARO DOES NOT USE AT 100% the potencial of the hardware! Other companies do that, and that is why they sell more, even that their controller is 1200 euro and the fibaro's is like 600 euro. I am ready to spend 700 or 800 euro with VAT for a controller, that uses all of its potential and not only be able to change the next track but to actually SEE and be able to choose the song or movie i want! FIBARO, one again, PLEASE do something about it!

 

Perhaps all of that will be working when they came up it Home Center 3

I don't agree with New Age Systems that Fibaro should make multimedia player out from HC and I hope they will not do that in the future. What I hope is that in future they provide more plugins for variety of devices and better support with better user guides and better stability to whole system.

It makes sence, Control4 are doing it and even though the price is high i have lost a few customer because of that functionality... I see that you are persistent, but when Fibaro gateway is in question I still think it is not good idea because real audiophiles will never be satisfied with such solution. What do you think what kind of audio hardware is actually on HC motherboard? Don't be ridiculous. I still think that is much better to have real thing for music and entertainment and then been able to control it from home automation box! Also, if you want to make your music paly lists isn't it better to do that with original app? Why Fibaro app has to be able to do that???

Just a thought - I have a smart TV at home (SAMSUNG) which has 2 remotes, and do you think it is cool to have 2 different ways to control it manually and another way to control it via Fibaro remotely when you can have only 1 way to do all the things you want with it from one place? But Fibaro does not support voice control for the purpose of my TV and one of the remotes has them. So you see, 1 device is needed that can do all the things.

 

About the sound quality, well you are right, but it is better to have those outputs working instead of having nothing. I proposed to use the 3.5mm output just because it will be better to connect the TV, Receiver and external HDD to HC2 and be able to see the playlist on the main TV/app and choose what to listen,watch and to include those things in scenes to be able to dim the lights or shut the curtains at the same time, only with a touch of the play button. It sounds cool, is not it?

Sorry but now you gone to wide! I was discussing with you only about making Fibaro gateway to multimedia player by using existing connectors on it!! I'm strongly against such solution, and I believe that Fibaro will never do such a thing to enable those connectors.

 

On the other hand it is true that it would bi nice to control all our appliances and multimedia with Fibaro only, without need to grab any other remote controls or use other apps. That's why I wrote before (quote myself):

And then since you mentioned Control4 I checked their site and now I understand why you want Fibaro gateway to became also mutimedia center

Oh by the way, when I want to watch TV I start scene on HC2 which then takes care for TV, blinds and lights depending on time of day, and of coruse stops music on Sonos speakers if it was playing. And all this happens by just swiping on Fibaro swipe
