Question

Posted (edited)

Hi Fibaro Team,

I bought a Fibaro Intercom and am a bit confused after reading the manual.

According to the product page it withstands rain and heat. The manual shows explicitly NOT to mount at places where rain can hit it or direct sun.

I took temp. measurement with an IR cam and even in free air it reaches temp. of 46°C. Attached two pictures of the front and the side (heatsink). The manual shows max. operating temp. of 40°C.  Mounting it in a wall will exceed it by much.

Our walls are equipped with thermal insulation and the Intercom needs to be mounted in.

My questions:

1. Is it possible to mount it into wall insulation?   How can I do it safely?

2. Does the device have over temp. protection?

3. Why is it getting that warm in free air at 20-21°C ambient temperature?

Thanks

Alex

Ambient is normally „ambient as specified by manufacturer for the use case“, in this case with the whole installation box within wall.

Thanks, that settles it then (for brick walls anyway). I am a former test-engineer, I worry about such details ;-)

Insulation materials are always problematic, but i wonder only how someone wish to mount it in insulation material teft protected?

My architect told me... Best way to insulate my old house (in the city) is to add insulation to the outside. Building regulations allow for 14 cm of extra material...

As you are from Germany you know Fritzbox is. The newest model with Intercom connected to the gigabit port and 6Mbit upload. NO kids blocking the bandwidth, no wife streaming 4K moovies, nothing. Thats definetely the Intercom what caused the problem.

Behind the insulation is wood material what makes it very easy to mount it in. A long thick screw is enough should work pretty well.

Anyway, I´m, done with it. Now I have a Doorbird Intercom which isn´t that cute as Fibaro but it works in the same network without any problem. It´s reliable and thats what I expect from a device which costs that much money. It would be worth the money when it would work.

I had the following notification on my Intercom.

When I got this alert, my Intercom was not mounted in a wall yet. He was exposed to an ambient temperature of 21 ° Celsius

The measurement via the API gives me an internal temperature of 85 ° Celsius.

How should I interpret this message? What should I do ?

Should I continue to use my Intercom? What are the risks.

The tampering detected message appears on my intercom when the case is removed has nothing to do with temperature.

check the casing has not been dislodged and fitted properly.
