Fibaro Dimmer 2 and light goes off after less than 1 asecond

Question

Posted

I have one problem:
I tried to install the new dimmer 2.

Everything worked fine so far (inclusion, automatic detection).

I have two momentary switches. If I use one of them controlling light works fine.

I am having two light in a row (two lamps at different positions).

The dimmer 2 module is connected to L, N. The output of switch 1 is connected to S1 (the other switch is connected to the first switch via

Light 1 is connected to O, than to the second light and back to neutral.

(So phase is connected to L of the module and input to the switches, neutral lead to N and end of second light, output of switch is connected to S1 and this "O" from the module is connected to the first light)

Now the problem:

If I switch on the lights via app or web page it goes on to the dimming value I want.  but only for very short time (less than a second).

So it switches off directly.

If I repeat this it happens again. But after the third or fourth time the light stays on.

After switching it off again and waiting for a minute (I have not measured this) I can reproduce this behaviour.

What have I done wrong?

Any more details needed?

Dimmer 1 uses a different strategy, but it also needs potential free contacts and a (very) high resistance when the contacts are open.

I did some measurements on Dimmer 2 and I would say 5 megaohm or more is needed to be considered "open". And I observed that 2 megaohm was detected as "closed". I did not test the effect of leakage current between the wires and neutral. I mean, this was not tested with real wires and real switches... it's a setup on my desk.

If there is an issue with leakage current (between wires or wires and metal tubes, problems with moisture) an electrician can use an isolation tester, aka "Megger", to find that out. It's a kind of ohmmeter, but with a very high voltage (typically 500 V). You must disconnect all loads and all connections to modules. I use this sometimes, for instance when people say they have trouble with their earth leakage circuit breaker.

Good luck!

The Gira Model is 151 for the momentary switch.

I tried to clean it but it did not help.

The electrician tries to come here on Monday and will check it (and also bring a new switch of Gira).

    Hi,

I have exactly the same problem.

My configuration is identical to the Alex one.

The only difference is that I adopted btcino momentary switches (5 all new just installed).

I have checked another momentary switch from Gira that is connected to the old dimmer.

It has no voltage as default if light is off. But when I press it once to enable dimmer it has a low voltage until I switch off light again (3-wire-system).

Somebody gave me the hint to disable double-click (parameter 23).

And this helped (but I will loose the double click functionality)

But still the dimmer 2 has a problem with reading the current brightness.

For example if I put light to full brightness via web, the light goes there but the web shows me any other value. Also if I disable the light manually via switch the web still shows the light on.

I'm on the road so a quick reply. If disabling double click helps... why not? Maybe because it mask the real cause of the problem.

I wonder why you get no status. Maybe something got wrong with association group one. If it was a windows pc I'd say: reboot. And for Z-wave I say: please try exclude and include. If that doesn't help, we can always use brainpower

Disabling double-click has no effect on my system. Same problem.

What I found is that keeping the switch pressed allow for a progressive rising of the luminescence of the light and after I release it it will stay at that level. Any further press return the situation to the previous problem.

    It is still not ok.

Now suddenly it does not react on the switch anymore: Light went off but not on anymore by switch, only by webfrontend.

So I already count four persons with this problem

Good to know that I am not the only one.

Sorry Alex, I ran out of ideas. BTW if you count me as one of those four, I don't have the problem you describe. I have no problems with dimmer 2 (or 1).

No, I did not count you

So I think the problem ist the voltage on S1 even if momentary switch is not pressed.

A solution is to disable double click (param. 23), but it does not help everybody.

Right now I  have no other idea also.

I hope I can do my measurements tomorrow finally.

Did you try to force recalibration? I tried installing a dimmer2, changed the light source and it acted like you describe... force recalibration and the problem was solved

Tried, it works initially but after some minutes the problem returns.

There is no chance of adjusting input response and Dimmer 2 is different in many ways from Dimmer 1

What I can suggest, the input S1 and S2 needs electrical isolation, we know now that Your switch does not provide such. Maybe in the switch there is a capacitor, varistor, snubber circuit or something that does make it work like not so high impedance.

Connecting even a small relay witch 230VAC inductor voltage, contacts rated @250VAC would help for sure.

Do you know one part that I can use and that is not that big.

Because a switch and the dimmer in one box does not give me that much space...

Btw the double click helps for one button, but if I connect all three of them it does not help anymore.

I have this problem. If the momentary switch is pressed briefly (again) the light goes to 100%.

If you hold down the momentary switch 1 second (no short press) is the light in the preset range.

After a few test I think is a capacitive problem and it seems that the dimmer 2 at input S1 is low-impedance, as the dimmer 1 (there not appeared this error). The larger the line length or the parallel guide with a Phase ( L1,L2,L3 ), the worse it is.

If a momentary switch is connected directly to the dimmer 2 (no cable length) of the error does not occur.

Currently only helps the disable parameter 23 (DoubleClick disabled).

Reve, what exactly is the problem?

By default, two quick button presses will end in 99% (100%) light level.

Short presses with time between them larger than 1s will be turning on, turning off

Long press >1s will end in brightness level change.

What do You mean by "is the light in the preset range."

Alex, i know there can be a problem with a relay this size.

The three switches are the Gira & one different or all are non-gira?

    Problem:
If the button is pressed only once briefly and parameter 23 is set to (DoubleClick enabled) the light comes on 100%

    Solution at the time:
Parameter 23 is set to (DoubleClick disabled) and the value of the dimmer will go to the value defined in parameter 19th

What has struck me: (Situation: Parameter23 = enabled)
Pressing the button does not short, but keeps it for a second then determines the light does not go to 100%.

Now the dimmer 2 is always a little bit weird. If I switch on the dimmer via web interface three times at a low level (one bar for example) then at the first, second or third time the dimmer makes crazy changes like brighting up to highest value or goes off.

Even witout any connection to S1, S2 and Sx.

Is that a behaviuour that might happen or is the dimmer defect?

Or does it not like two dimmable LED bulbs (9W each, same model)?

    Alex, give parameters

    1,2,5,6,7,8,14,30,31,32,33,34
