Android App - Unable to connect remotely after local access

Question

I'm facing a very strange issue with remote connection on Android app which drives me crazy from over a month. I have several Android phones which all behave in similar manner:

HTC One M8s, Samsung Galaxy S6 both on Android 6

HTC One M7 on Android 5

The problem is that remote connection will not work anymore AFTER a successfully local connection, failing with "Invalid login or password" message. There are 2 situations:

1. Install the app while connected to LAN. It will connect locally, but it will NOT connect remotely after that

2. Install the app while on mobile network. It will connect remotely and stay on remote connection even when connected to LAN. As soon as the Settings/Choose HC is opened, a toast pops: HC IP address updated, and after that no more remote connection is possible

Obviously the problem is not in the configuration of remote access because the app can connect remotely.

I used an app to sniff the requests made by the app and here comes the strange thing: While in mobile network (or other network), the app make a request to dom.fibaro.com which is successful, but after that, for some reason, it will try to login to the LOCAL IP (192.168.1.200) while on foreign network, which, of course fails. The above happens only after a successful local access (that is, after the IP update thing).

I used to stay on remote to circumvent this problem, but since I added 2 cameras to the system this is no longer feasible.

I'd hoped that the update with the new lighter blue background would make a difference, clearly not :D

im having very similar problems here too.  ipad and ios works fine remotely and on Lan.  BUT Android device remotely only shows the settings and help buttons, and if I try to access rooms it tells me there is an issue with the config.  On LAN it works fine.

Web browser access also works fine, only seems to be the Android app.

Im on Vodafone Australia.

Hi guys!

I'm sorry that you experience some issues. However, those problems are very network-dependent, we cannot validate them so easily.

So @mobbie,

Could you make sure that your Android has data connection turned on, that Fibaro app is allowed to use it, that you properly configured Fibaro ID.

Where did you test this app?

iPad and iPhone work fine remotely and via LAN.

Android remotely shows only settings and help buttons.

But then, you have: "On LAN it works fine".

So could you clarify, which access is problematical?

@I.Srodka thanks for the response and sorry for the delay in responding.

When im on my local network the android app works fine.  ios tablet and phone also work fine.

when Im using 3g/4g data (ie wifi turned off) im able to access remotely from ios devices, but when I use my Android Galaxy S6 remote access through the app does not work.  When I use chrome browser on my Galaxy S6 when on 3g/4g I can access the hc2 fine as well.  ONLY the App seems to be affected.  My hc2 is v4.140.  The app is 1.18.0.1

also too add.  when Im using it on 3g/4g the app opens, and after some time 'connecting' it eventually takes me to the screen with all the icons such as rooms/cameras etc, but they are all greyed out except for settings and help.  (sorry didnt post screen shots but I dont seem to be able to from my phone)

more info:  i also turned off my wifi (so made sure I was only using 3g/4g) and when through setting up the app again.

fibaro ID worked/accepted password etc

I wad able to select my hc2 and enter my credentials

it goes through the process of connecting and then provides me the screen of icons (rooms/camers etc) but all greyed out.

turn wifi back on.. the app works fine and im able to go into rooms and control devices, view cameras etc

@I.Srodka is this by any chance related to the home issue?

did anyone get anywhere or an answer on this one?  This is a fustrating problem as I use remote access often but at the moment it dosent work on my android device

Weird thing though, if ive successfully connected from home and then go remote without exiting the app I can control everything remotely correctly.  The issue seems to be related to signin only.

you might try settings up a DNS.  i have mine on a DNS because i couldnt get a static Ip with my current setup.  after the DNS, i have never had issues accessing outside of local access

@matt1981 thanks I havent needed to do that because ios and web browser are fine its just on android its a problem.  And on android it works if I leave thw app open after connecting from the lan and then go remote, so this really makes me think its a problem with the app on initial connection when remote.

Hello, it seems a lot of people have trouble connecting to their Fibaro Home Center remotely (without WiFi enabled). The error message is : incorrect username/password. I was having this issue in the past with a lot of systems that were supposed to integrate Fibaro (Example Google Home). Meanwhile after some Fibaro upgrades most of these issues were solved and now, at least Google works perfectly. But when using the Vodafone Romania network this ugly issue still manifests itself. Going abroad in roaming or switching the mobile network operator will make this issue go away. But for those of you who still have this problem I have managed to find a solution:

Trying to login into the application remotely (without WiFi enabled) will result in the "incorrect username or password" message. Take out the Vodafone SIM and insert another sim from another operator. Login into the application successfully (without using WiFi ) and then put back your Vodafone SIM. This will fix the issue and you will be able to connect through Vodafone successfully. I am not sure why this works but somehow a successful route is created when using the other operator SIM and this same path will be used with the Vodafone SIM as well.

Hope this helps other as well.
